Vancomycin/Neomycin...Dr. McCandless?

Dr. McCandless,

Can neomycin be used with the same results as vancomycin? We've used neomycin

in the past and it seemed to get rid of the bacteria. We don't have drug

coverage under out insurance plan and the pharmacist just let me know that the

vancomycin would be $744 for one week....I nearly fainted. If I recall neomycin

was just over $100 for 2 weeks supply. Do you think it'd be OK to use the less

expensive one?
