Guest guest
Maybe some of you can shed some light here. First of all, I have never really understood the question. And certainly without that understanding, I don't understand the answer. I've heard the pat answer, " The Grail serves the Grail King. " What does that mean, if anything? I asked once what the question meant and he said something about " What do you live for? " And then I read ph about how the Waste Land is a world where people live not out of their own initiative, but out of what they think they're supposed to do. (And he talks about the hero of the Grail legend had been taught that knights do not to ask questions. And how when he sees the maimed king, he wants to ask his sympathetic " What ails you? " but represses it - and thus at that point the quest fails.) Well, I understand what means. Living with authenticity. But I just plain don't understand the question, " Whom does the Grail serve? " I don't see why that question is asked and what it really has to do with the Grail legend. Isn't the Grail the Chalice? The Chalice serves us all, the way I see it. Sorry if I am obtuse. But this issue has long confused me. Sara
