Guest guest Posted March 17, 2002 Report Share Posted March 17, 2002 Hello everyone... I have a question. My 8 year old daughter is in 2nd grade and completely mainstreamed but has a parapro all day. Lately she has decided that her work is " too hard " and that she cannot even attempt it. My gut feeling is that she can do it she just doesn't want to. We are quite familiar with this in all of her activities... cleaning her room, brushing teeth, getting off the couch, etc... all are " too hard " followed by lots of wah, wah wahs... Now up her in our school system they test the kids at the beginning of the year and then group them in classes for reading and math based on their ability and Siarra did test high so she is above grade level in both classes. I hadn't given it too much thought lately and just thought my daughter was excessively whining but this weekend we will be doing lots of the work she refused to complete at school including reading a few chapters of a 5th grade level book. My question really is that given the autism, at what point are we encouraging our kids to excel and at what point are we just pushing too hard? Thanks so much!
