Guest guest
My son tried serenaid, kirkman's enzymes, absorbaid, and enzymedica plant based enzymes. None of them helped. He currently takes enzymatic therapy mega-zyme animal/plant enzymes with his meal along with his HCL. They have helped somewhat, but not enough to reintroduce any foods (and I am not talking about gluten or casein). Has anyone had any success with HN enzymes? I wonder if they're worth a try. a H. Guest guest
We have had very good results with the HNI enzymes. We had tried Kirkman and some others in the past and really didn't see anything. I got DeFelice's book on enzymes and realized I didn't understand how to use them. We started the Houston enzymes about a month ago and my happy child is back. Because my daughter is older, the restrictive diet was extremely hard, almost impossible. We are not restricting now that we are using the enzymes and we haven't seen any real reactions to foods. The enzyme and autism website has lots of information and Houston Nutraceuticals also has information on their site. They also have an 800 number you can call if you have questions. Their customer service is top notch. The things we have noted since starting enzymes are less hyperactivity, the tantrums are gone again and at school she is better able to stay on task. All of this while eating things she hasn't had in a very long time. Be prepared for an adjustment period when you start enzymes. Ours lasted a week or so. Guest guest
I don't think I was consistent and I didn't really understand what each enzymes acted upon. I also didn't realize that there would be an adjustment period with the enzymes so at the first sign of negative behavior, I'd stop. This time we stuck through the first week or so of adjustment and saw good things start happening. 's book gives a great explanation of how the digestive system works and how enzymes help it heal. She also gives information about enzymes and how to choose them for specific needs. There is just lots of good information in the book about a variety of things. is the mother of two children who are on the spectrum and she herself has sensory issues. She has a background in science so she understands the " how and why " of enzymes. She and her children have benefited from enzymes. The book was less than $20 and it was money well spent. I got it at the same time I got Dr. McCandless newest edition. I spent the weekend reading and reading. The internet group enzymes and autism is, like this group, a great resource. These two internet groups have taught me more in a month than I learned in years. I also didn't know that certain enzymes can help break down the outer shell of yeast. We are using enzymes for all meals and snacks for now. Our hope is that this will help heal my daughter's gut problems. Already we have seen her bowel movement difficulties greatly improve, just one of the positive things. For personal reasons, I am a very big fan of Dr. Devin Houston who developed the enzymes that Houston Nutraceuticals sells. He and his wife are fine, caring people. enzymes : When you say that you didn't understand how to use the enzymes, what did you mean? We've used the HNI enzymes for years and your statement made me wonder if I've been doing it wrong all these years!!! What did 's book tell you? Thanks, Betsy
Guest guest
My daughter has not tolerated any supplement other than methylcobalamin shots and HNI enzymes. She has made huge gains on the enzymes. Her diet is still very limited (due to yeast/bacteria issues) but her energy and mood are much improved. She is digesting her food much better (apparent from stool). Definitely worth a try in my opinion. -- In csb-autism-rx , PHashmall@a... wrote: > My son tried serenaid, kirkman's enzymes, absorbaid, and enzymedica plant > based enzymes. None of them helped.
