Guest guest
Eeeeks...look out for us now! FYI - Lyn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MEDS & AUTO ACCIDENTS Friday, October 23, 1998 The British medical journal Lancet recently published a study about antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, sleeping medications, and automobile accidents. The study found that patients taking anti-anxiety drugs like Valium are three times more likely to have car accidents. The study found that the increased rate of accidents occurs even when the patients don't actually feel drowsy from the medication. However, patients taking antidepressants such as Prozac were no more likely to have car accidents than anyone else. And taking sleeping pills doesn't appear to increase the risk of accidents either, with one exception: patients taking the sleeping medication zopiclone had more accidents than others. The researchers speculated that perhaps zopiclone takes longer to wear off than other sleeping pills. One doctor cautioned that it still isn't clear whether Valium and other anti-depressants cause patients to have more accidents, or whether the anxiety illness that the drugs are prescribed for actually causes patients to be more accident-prone.
