Guest guest
Hi all Im 26 years old Scandinavian young man, I started taking citalopram May the 3rd till the 6th of june. That would be 5 weeks on the drug. I started taking citalopram cause I was having a lot of anxiety, and my mother kind of pushed me to start on ssri cause she knew a lot of people that benefited from it. I really didn't want to take it, since I knew about the sexual side effects it could cause (but only on the drug not after stopping). But the doctor made sure they would disappear again when I went off the ssri again. I was having a lot of side effects while on the drug and my libido got a lot worse. So I searched on the sexual side effects on the drug on google, and ended up reading about pssd and became scared as hell. I then took half a dose the next day I was on 20mg the entire time and went down to 10mg and then stopped taking it, so almost a cold turkey. And right now im still having libido side effect and my erection is not as hard as it used to be, and I can't hold it for nearly as long. I only improved a little from not being on the drug, and I have seen small glimpses where i felt it was back to normal but only lasting a couple of days went away and came back and then went away again. Im having suicidal thoughts at the moment, and I just can't live with this horrible libido. Right now im scared as hell cause I felt I caused this by going cold turkey, can this be reversed by the same drug ? Or do you think I should just stay away from all ssri and hope the body can take care of it by itself ? Thanks
Guest guest
How long have you been off the drug? You might want to start back on 10 mg for 1-2 weeks, then 5 mg for 1-2 weeks, etc then taper off that way if you are having withdrawal. I couldn't stop taking these drugs nearly cold turkey. I did not have any withdrawal symptons after stopping with the medication at all. I feel weaker in libido and erection strength but that is the only thing, otherwise there is nothing. And maybe its also caused by me being nervous about it all the time, i don't know. Do you think it really will hurt me long term cold-turking on the drug when im only been on it for 5 weeks and on a realativly small dose ? I read that you can go up to 4 weeks and still cold turkey without problems, so its only a week overdue.
Guest guest
I know the suicidal thoughts just after quiting cold turkey. They are strongly influenced by the fact that you quit suddenly. I never heard of reversing the pssd effects by going BACK on an ssri, on the contrary, i would not advice it, the medication is a sexuality killer.Watch out for yourself though in this period where you just quited, your brain balance has to come back, give yourselve time.Op 20 jul. 2012 om 09:20 heeft "chrt24" het volgende geschreven: Hi all Im 26 years old Scandinavian young man, I started taking citalopram May the 3rd till the 6th of june. Guest guest
I am very sorry to hear of your struggles, I haven't posted here in a while but I have had pssd for a long time. One thing to think about is that you have not been on the drug for very long and its sounds like you did not take a very high dose of medication, so I really believe its possible that your libido could still return and that hopefully not much harm was done. From your post, you sound like you are quite scared of what is happening right now, and you have every right to be, and believe me so was I. At the same time, I think it would be good for you to try to find a calm place inside of yourself and to find some relaxation wherever you can. Try to get back into your body slowly and keep breathing. Also, for some ppl recovering libido does happen over time, so try to keep that in mind. When i was going through what you are going through, i couldn't stop thinking about it, and that wasn't healthy. Try to have times where you break away from it all. Good luck. I hope you start to feel better soon. > > I know the suicidal thoughts just after quiting cold turkey. Guest guest
stay away from psychotropic drugs. dont start the citalopram again. if you didnt have any withdrawal symptoms there is no need to ever take it again. you cant fix your libido and erections with drugs that have sexual dysfunction as side-effects. think for yourself. pssd is real, it does exist, it can be irreversible but nobody here can tell you now if you are afflicted. live healthy, work out, let your brain heal from this short episode of ssri poisoning, get your anxiety under control and dont act on your suicidal thoughts its too early to make such a serious decision - you can kill yourself later aswell. all the best - jens > > Hi all > > Im 26 years old Scandinavian young man, I started taking citalopram May the 3rd till the 6th of june. Guest guest
It is too early to tell if the drug is out of your system. It might take up to 8 weeks for some drugs to be out of your system. If you are escandanavian then you are not getting enough sun. Check your vit D level. For axienty you might want to try Buspar. It is very mild. The side effects are minor. Ask your doctor. Guest guest
Has anyone ever recovered completely by doing a cold turkey ? It seems like those who recovered almost completely has been tapering the medication. The thing is that sometimes it feels like its close to being back (not as strong as it was before medication but ok) and other times its not good at all, but I tend to worry about it a lot then. > > > > Hi all > > > > Im 26 years old Scandinavian young man, I started taking citalopram May the 3rd till the 6th of june. Guest guest
I'd say 20 minutes of cardio isn't enough. I'd go for 35/40m minimum. > > > > Hi all > > > > Im 26 years old Scandinavian young man, I started taking citalopram May the 3rd till the 6th of june.
