Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Dear Friends out there in Fatmanwalking land, I was just wondering if any of you ate meal replacement bars or things like that. I see them all over the place on counters of convenience stores and drug stores etc. and I wanted to know if they were recommended for programs like this. There are so many of them and I wondered if there are some that are better than others and what are recommended for our program. I am not that overweight but do not always eat properly and would like some input on this matter. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Oh, Elaine, your post brought back memories for me. My first job was in a donut shop. While on the clock, we were allowed to eat all of the donuts we wanted at no charge-a teenagers dream, right? When I first started I couldn't understand why some of my co-workers said they hated donuts. I gobbled up my favorite varieties until I was tired of them. Then I found new favorites and gobbled them up too. After a couple of weeks, I too hated donuts! That was nearly 30 years ago and I still am not even tempted by a donut. Now, if only I could work a few weeks in a potato chip factory, a pie factory, a cookie factory.... lol Mona --- Elaine wrote: > Welcome to the group, Joe. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 I am not that overweight but do not always eat properly and would like some input on this matter. TC Carl French Hamilton Ontario as for me I leave all the man made foods alone. Apple, orange, banana and any other natural food will be a much better choice. Did you ever read the list of ingredient in those meal replacements? Sounds like a chemical factory! Quote
Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 When I am backpacking and weight is an issue in the pack I like to take the Zone bars or Balance bars.....they have the proper balance of fats, carbs, and proteins for my food program. there are some others as well I believe. I know a couple of friends who prefer the higher protein bars but I found they usually have peanuts and I am allergic to them. The bars I eat say they are made in a plant that uses peanuts but so far I have not had a problem with them. Another situation where reading the labels and finding what fits your eating program is an individual decision. Jane Quote
Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Hi Joe, I am new also, a few weeks. I am one of your customers in Canada. I like your number one combo with a side salad instead of fries. I also like your chichen salad platter. These changes are a welcome addition to the main menu. I see it as an innovation because atleast one of the other burger chains is now offering a salad instead of fries. I am a swimmer at the pool. I get 11,400 steps from America On the Move for swimming 45 minutes of the breaststroke. I ride the city bus and subway, I walk to and from places, and do not have any time to go walking to reduce my waist. I have done my share of walking and bike riding, 55 years old now, 48 inch waist. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 I tried the spark people website the other day and i found it really useful. they ask you to pick one thing in excercise and 1 thing in nutrition to alter for your first couple of weeks so you dont overwhelm yourself with too many changes at once. i looked at the excercise examples and they were great. i was working on the 21 day plan, where you try something 21 times in a row to see if you can work it into a good habit. i have been derailed by getting sick, again. i want to get back at it as soon as i can. are you exhausted at the end of the day? that was my greatest challenge when I worked those kinds of hours, i'd go home eat and collapse. and it was such a long work day that i rarely got 8 hours of sleep. you might consider checking out the various health sites and see what they have to say about getting around the exhaustion so you can excercise. I got a doctors note for no more overtime, but it doesnt sound like that would work for a restaurant manager, it's part of the job. maybe handweights and that walk around the parking lot someone else suggested? best wishes! laurie > > My name is Joe.I'm 57 yrs. old and my weight is > 313.About 5 yrs. ago I lost 112 lbs. and have gained > about 55 lbs back.I am back on my diet and have lost > 14 lbs. but do not loose weight if I don't walk.I'll > be looking for that pedometer thing.I work 10 hrs. a > day 5 days a week managing a 's in Texas. > > __________________________________________________ > Quote

Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Hi folks at TFMW group, I just wondered if anybody ever heard of a site called the Better Life Institute. They offer a lot of really good info on nutrition and diet and that sort of stuff. I think the site address is www.blionline.com. The Institute is run by a Dr. Chet (first name) and he really knows his stuff. You can get a daily newsletter like a lot of sites do if you register. I wish you all the best in your quest for better health. I am celebrating my Double nickle birthday on Monday and sometimes I feel like 75 and should get out more and walk but the computer seems to run my life these days. tC Carl French Hamilton Ontario. > >Reply-To: thefatmanwalking_group >To: thefatmanwalking_group >Subject: Re: Intro. >Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2006 02:21:16 -0000 > > > > > > >I tried the spark people website the other day and i found it really > >useful. > > > >they ask you to pick one thing in excercise and 1 thing in nutrition > >to alter for your first couple of weeks so you dont overwhelm yourself > >with too many changes at once. > > > >i looked at the excercise examples and they were great. > > > >i was working on the 21 day plan, where you try something 21 times in > >a row to see if you can work it into a good habit. i have been > >derailed by getting sick, again. i want to get back at it as soon as i > >can. > > > >are you exhausted at the end of the day? that was my greatest > >challenge when I worked those kinds of hours, i'd go home eat and > >collapse. and it was such a long work day that i rarely got 8 hours > >of sleep. you might consider checking out the various health sites > >and see what they have to say about getting around the exhaustion so > >you can excercise. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Thanks Doug, I occassionally eat one or two of those bars that I get off the net and I don't always look at the ingredients. Are there any chemical I should be looking for? Thanks TC Carl Hamilton Ont. >From: dougpapa@... >Reply-To: thefatmanwalking_group >To: thefatmanwalking_group >Subject: Re: Intro. >Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2006 17:50:38 EDT > > >In a message dated 4/8/2006 3:00:33 PM Central Standard Time, >carl3french2@... writes: > >I am not that overweight but do not >always eat properly and would like some input on this matter. Guest guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I totally agree with you . Sometimes you do not even want to know what kind of chemicals go into your food. Stick to natural foods and you will be much better off. Bernd dougpapa@... schrieb: I am not that overweight but do not always eat properly and would like some input on this matter. Guest guest Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Thanks Doug, Good morning Carl and you are welcome I occassionally eat one or two of those bars that I get off the net and I don't always look at the ingredients. Most likely if you just have one ocassionally and continue to eat enough fruit, vegetables and grane, they ill cause no problem Are there any chemical I should be looking for?I really don't have a good answer to this. My rule of thumb is. If it's not natural nature made food it aint <Smile> good for us Thanks TC Carl Hamilton Ont.Have a blessed day Quote
