I'm sure I remember a good article in either an old European Journal of

Herbal Medicine, or a British Journal of Phytotherapy. I've not got them

here, can anyone else find this?

Postletwaithe's article in the EJHM Vol.1, No2 (summer 1994) would be

a good resource, if this book of his isn't out yet.

Hi

This is my first posting onto this site. I have been a 'lurker' up to now

not daring to raise my lowly student head. This is to say hi and that we

missed you at Conference but gave an almighty cheer when your name was

called out as we did for Tami as well, long years of happy and health-filled

practise to you both.

Just on addiction, recovery is spirit based (as is all healing) but recovery

from addiction especially so, in fact the talking therapies generally don't

have great success with addiction although they help at certain points. The

AA programmes are based on the 12 step recovery programme and most of the

recovery programmes for other substances and behavoural abuses are based on

the AA one with special adaptation for the unique aspects of the addiction.

Hopefully the young man in question will have access to these kind of

programmes. There are two wonderful books written on this, two authors Donna

Cunningham and can't remember the other called The Spiritual Dimensions of

Healing Addictions, Parts I and II. It uses meditation, crystals, flower

essences and gem elixirs, It's not exactly herbs but the flower essences are

very helpful and supportive and the books give great background to the

evolution of our species into the exteme states of addiction we find

ourselves in today. The books are free of organised religion in particular

their tendencies to apportion blame and therefore appeals greatly to younger

people, a lot of whom are almost entirely disillusioned with contemporary

life.

In the meantime however, as you know best bet would be protect his organs

which will have taken a beating, lots of good nutrition, some nervines and

some willpower boosting herbs. and of course most important treat the mammy,

as she will no doubt be anxious and concerned about her son, so lots of

support there too to help her help him. Maybe suggest she goes and talks to

somebody as she will need support as well.

Love

Anne V
