.. The school psychologist doesn't want me to have it...she says the letter has been all that was needed in the past. Those of you with experience...Don't I have a right to a copy of the eval? If so, how do I make them give it to me?

I had no trouble getting a copy of my sons' directly from the school psychologist. I'm not sure how it works in the school district you are in, but in ours the next step after that would be the Director of Special Education.

You have a right to any records (educational or medical) pertaining to

your child no matter what they are or who has them. They cannot refuse you.

It's against the law. I had a doctor try this with Dillon's (age 8 NT)

biopsy report, but she had some thinks-she's-God-thing going on. You

shouldn't have to anything more than ask. If you can't get it from the case

worker, go over her head. Then keep going until you get what you need.

Personally, I find going to the top immediately the best way to deal with

people like your school psychologist. Go to the school superintendant. That

should get her attention.

The latest claim is that they can't make a copy due to

copyright laws. I said give me a blank test and then

the results for each item.

I'm going to take a shot at this--My masters degree is in school

psychology (psy testing). The actual test is covered under copyright

laws. So, the " parent/guardian have the legal right to obtain

information about the RESULTS of assessments of their children " . (I

pulled that quote from a psy ethics book) The parents cannot have the

actual test protocol (or even a copy). The rationale behind this is

not to withhold information from the parent but to protect the test

from being copied, etc.... The problem comes that people would be

able to see the test and know what was on it it would then invalidate

the " standardization " of the test. There are people out there who

actually try to get copies of the test so that they can " prepare "

their children or themselves for the test! If there were current

copies of the SAT --it would be much easier to study to get a better

score. I am not trying to be the bad guy--I have left the field of

testing because of many reasons of unfairness--but the school system

is correct in not being able to give you a copy of the test! NOW,

all of my families have the Deeming Waiver and I have never heard of

them having to provide the actual test!! If this is the case--the

school system can share test protocol with qualified individuals. It

seems to me that a valid psy report containing the results should be

enough??? In my practicum--I did have someone see part of the test

but I was forced to white out all of the " test " info and leave only

the child's responses but that made the test completely

unrecognizable--pointless! Maybe your summary didn't provide enough

information. YOu are definitely entitiled to any summary, report or

notes. Look at the summary and see if it contains the actual

standarized scores or stanines or anything that would give the

pertinent info to the people requesting the info.

Hope this helps,

Here I go, getting MAD AGAIN!!!!

YOU have every right to have that COMPLETE evaluation.

Call the board of education office and ask for the person that is the

coordinator of special education and tell them to get you a copy of the

evaluation, or for them to FIND LEGAL HELP!

Ask nicely first and in a couple of days, you do not have this in your

hands, tell them the lawyer is coming!!

P.S. if this doesn't work, let me know.

That's a bunch of BULL!!! Those state taxes and property taxes pay for

these things.

YOU have the right to the original. THEY can have a copy! That's what I got

from the school, the original.

Sorry you are in pain, I would have to say that the prednisone works

for me in a matter of hours. My last flair does not sound as serious

as the one you are having.

Hope you feel better.

I'm currently doing better! I finally had to get in touch with one of " my

docs! " They had me come in and get an IV infusion of 1 gram of Solu-Medrol.

Boy, what a help that was. After all the harassment and frustration I went

though, just because the average doc does know diddly about AOSD! Now, its just

a matter of keeping my fingers crossed that this lasts through until next

Tuesday (when I see my doc again!). He also upped my oral prednisone to 40 mg a

day. I'm still aching, had some fever, sweating and pain, but gosh...at least

I'm not crying out in pain and have been able to get some sleep in (with my TENS

unit on also!).

Boy, this is the worst flare I've ever had. I thought this disease was supposed

to be the worst in the beginning and then taper off with (hopeful) remissions

in-between. I had this 1997, and this was the worst flare I've ever had. I

don't get the rashes, so most of my symptoms are " invisible. " Of course,

medically trained people should know how to identify pain intensity (such as

elevated blood pressure, sweating/chills, dry heaves or vomiting at pain

threshold, etc. I guess it was just dumb luck to happen to become " evaluated "

by " medically intelligent-deficit " doctors!

Glad I could voice my frustrations with people who understand!

Thanks everyone! Now I hope the " good treatment " will continue, because I'm far

from out of the woods. I know they can't keep me on this high dosing of

corticosteroids for long without doing severe damage somewhere else in my body.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend (mine at least is not a

disaster!).

All my heart,

Jul

Dear Jul,

It sounds like you have had a terrible few days. I hope that you can find

relief soon. I hope you have a good Dr. that can help you get your disease

under control.

The Prednisone should act pretty quickly. Maybe it is because you said that

you don't absorb things well orally.

I would try to get something for your pain. You certainly can't run to the

ER every night. Unfortunately as you experienced they ussually don't do too

much for you. That has been my experience anyway.

Your in my thoughts and prayers,

jatw@...
