Thuja salve, applied day and night until 2-3 weeks after the symptoms are gone. Thuja salve is not strong enough for the toenails; for that, you need to get him to file down the thickness of the nail (until it's as thin as he can stand it) and have him apply tea tree oil, neat; this is one of the only things I recommend tea tree oil for. It's rather allergenic, and while people used to think that you could use it lots, neat, most of the people who actually did so can no longer use it at all. Thuja (or cypress, which works the same way) is easy to pick; just be there with a bag when a neighbor cuts his/hers down to size, ask for a few of the branches, dry them, put them into a bag and crush them from the outside of the bag. Pull out brown branches, pour greens into jars, label, store dark. Thuja salve: dried green parts of Cupressus sp. or Thuja sp., made into a normal salve on a waterbath. Add calendula for a bit of extra zing. Also look into the reasons for his immune system weakness; why does he get so many fungal infections, and why can't he get rid of them? Add necessary supplements, a good B-complex and codliver oil at the very least. Guest guest
I had a new patient today with extensive tinea (I think, having studied my dermatology book). It has spread up to his waist at the back and down as far as one knee, on one side. He's had it over 2 years and done nothing about it. Doesn't want to go to his doctor. He's nearly 70. He does have athlete's foot, and a fungal infection of a toe nail. What do people recommend? Cheers Janet
Guest guest
Hi Janet I know one patient with extensive and chronic tinea on his chest and he cleared it up using vicks vapour rub applied to the areas nightly! For athletes foot, I have found using distilled witch hazel twice daily works a treat. Good luck. Guest guest
One thing I have found really helpful in tinea cases has bee turmeric in a cream, mind you it has a huge problem it´s yellow! ie it will colour the patient. Anotherone is neem. Aloe gel is also good as it leaves the surface dry.
