Guest guest
Careful with this drug, it can activate latent Hyperthyroidism, I have seen it cause " thyroid psychosis " and it can injure the retina. Guest guest
Dear TIm, Really difficult one. I have an elderly patient who has had problems consistently with this drug. She has Paget's disease and COAD and it extremely difficult to work out what are side- effects of the multiple medication she's taking and what is underlying pathology. She was suffering recurrent chest infections and has since had a stroke and a bad bout of breathlessness, caused by reaction to change in medication and stopping, the amioderone on the instructions of a locum doctor. She became very oedematous. I have stuck strictly to gently respiratory remedies and these helped clear the congestion quite a bit. I suspect she is now in cardiac failure following an appauling stay in hospital where feeding tube was pushed into lungs by mistake and led to pulmonary oedema so we have stoppped herbal medication whilst the three doctors involved in her treatment sort out between them what she should or shouldn't be taking. In view of Comment on hyperthyroidism it interesting that this lady is also taking thyroxine for hypothyroidism!! All I can say is I'm relieved I'm not treating her. with so much going wrong the herbs would be bound to be blamed should she collapse again. . amiodarone > Hello everyone! > Patient, male, 47yo > Atrial fibrillation detected oct 99, no other heart problems/defects > tendonitis L shoulder due to overuse weight training, op oct 99 (AF detected at this point) > Fibrous lumps appearing in skin over last 5 yr > Hypochondriac by his own admission. > > Hospital plan to use Amiodarone and cardioversion after 8 wk. > > Anyone had any experience of this drug either by itself or with concurrent herbal medication?? > > Best regards, > Tim Lane. > > >
