Guest guest
Hi, I'm trying this one again - I think (so does Pt) that this is not a case of detox, but rather that the cannabis controlled the pain - though please correct me if I'm wrong! The last 10 yrs or so she had 1 joint daily (grass), previuously more. What i'm wondering is , can somebody suggest a herb that would substitute the cannabis for this patient, because she really does not want to get back on it. Any advice would be much appreciated! all the best Sabine - Cannabis withdrawal & RA > Query: female, 46yrs, who i've been treating for RA and emotional support for quite a while (in fact i had posted a query before, re vulnerability after therapy), had been doing really well on her latest mix (Curcuma, Agrimonia, Dioscorea, , Scutellaria, Cinnamomum), no pain, energy good, feeling great, though BM still bit loose. > > About 5 weeks ago she stopped smoking cannabis (after having done so for 30yrs), and since then has been in continuous pain, esp in hands (can't open tins), and feet. Herbal pain mix (Harpagophytum, Salix, Vib.op., Althea rad, Zingiber) not working anymore. Ulnar deviation much increased. Feels tired. Circulation was warm, but suffers from cold extremities now, mouth dry in morning, sudden & new craving for meat. When she satisfied that urge, she noticed a better formed BM. > > Has anybody come across this response to stopping cannabis, and is there any way in which it could be alleviated? Guest guest
Hello Sabine Did your patient smoke the cannabis mixed with tobacco? If so, it is probably nicotine withdrawal she is experiencing rather than cannbis withdrawal which is not an addictive substance. The cold she is feeling will need circulatory stimulants as she is not getting the nicotine hit. Pain may also be associated with circulatory problems as well as the tension she is feeling from withdrawal. all the best Des , Medical Herbalist Stowmarket, Suffolk Mulloy & Sabine Hiller wrote: Hi, I'm trying this one again - I think (so does Pt) that this is not a case of detox, but rather that the cannabis controlled the pain - though please correct me if I'm wrong! Guest guest
Hi Des & Sally, no, can't be nicotine withdrawal, as she still smokes 2-3 fags a day (her last vice..). As to addictiveness, I thought that cannabis was emotionally addictive? I was thinking of including Cimicifuga & Zanthox, had also checked the booklet to see what herbs would have similar actions on the different systems as Cannabis, Cimicifuga was one of them, also Scutellaria, besides Bryonia, Datura etc (stuff I can't use in Ireland). Thanks for your replies! Guest guest
You could try cannabis as a homoepathic potency if the symptoms fit. I think s will make it up for you. Feverfew can cause exacerbation of arthritic pain when the dose is reduced, maybe other things can too. Another option is to have her make up a cannabis tincture, take dose that relieves pain, then reduce it gradually. Don't know what the ruling is in Ireland but I think it can be prescribed here for pain relief.
