Hi Serena,I wish you all the best with your practice, And yes in the beginning it is strange to ask money for your service. But you will realise that you put a lot of time and effort in supporting parents-and-baby.  Not to forget al the administration. For me money is also a state  of energy.

I am also a former (A)APL at LLL. :-).Marijke Frings

Hi!

My name is Serena Meyer, I live in El Sobrante Ca and my private practice is almost all set to go live. I certified in 2011, and I've been busy getting all my business license stuff; logo, website and insurance... it's been a little daunting.

I have a feeling I know a few of you here, but wow, the member list was so long I didn't bother to go through it!!

I'm happy to share my journey- it seems like I should have taken these steps to find support months ago.

I was a former LLL, and AAPL, and now I am a Breastfeeding Counselor with various other positions with Breastfeeding USA. It feels very strange to step away from volunteer work and expect to get paid for what was free just a minute ago. I value my expertise, but it is still uncomfortable and new to think about payment. That's sort of where I am right now.

More later...

Hi Serena,

It is nice to meet you. I live in Berkeley, CA ( close to you), and I am having

the same experience as you. I am in the process of setting up a private

practice. I have only worked for WIC, as a lactation consultant, so payment was

never a part of the picture. Feel free to email me privately and I will give you

my phone number if you want to chat.

Hi Serena,

Your name and email look familiar to me. I think I know you from the group

that was created from Heath e learning modules.

You will love this group. Many experienced LC's in PP sharing their knowledge to

us newbies.....kind of like an LLL meeting.

I totally understand the volunteer and now getting paid awkwardness. I have

been in PP for about 2 years and 14 years LLL Leader so I know that feeling.

good luck with your PP and welcome to the group.
