Guest guest
: I just checked the ingredients and they sound good except for the use of either canola oil or soybean oil as the vegetable oil. The first ingredient is olive oil, which is great for salads where it is not heated. How much of the soybean oil still has any soy protein in it I cannot say. I also do not like canola oil, but all oils are much less harmful in salads than in cooked foods, and I have yet to find a salad oil made with macadamia or coconut oil. Chelsey loves this stuff and will eat most vegetables if she can have this on it. However, at 10-1/2 her gut is in good shape (yes, almost all kids' guts get better as they get older - it's our little ones who are so tender). We give her enzymes only if she's having gluten or cheese now when we go out occasionally and everyone else is eating e.g. pizza. She doesn't even know what cow's milk is, and I hope will never find out. Dr. JM Re: Food Rotation > Hi Jack... a question please... I noticed you mentioned Newman's Own > Oil and Vinegar. Guest guest
, Newman's Own Olive Oil and Vinegar consists of the following ingredients (in order): Olive Oil Soybean and/or Canola Oil Red Wine Vinegar Onion Spices Salt Garlic Lemon Juice Distilled Vinegar So it is not soyfree but is GF/CF. The amount of soy is OK for Chelsey, whose diet has expanded now with the use of enzymes. Alternatively, one could make one's own salad dressing with Mac oil, distilled vinegar, a touch of salt and spices. Jack adoptinggrace wrote: Hi Jack... a question please... I don't think Chelsey is on the restricted diet anymore if I am remembering right but just wondered if this dressing is one that is safe for kiddos who are. I have never checked it that I can recall-most have too many additives that we can't have. I am guessing it is not OK for us since we are GF/CF and also soy, corn sugar and all the other frees we can come up with. I've been searching for a commercial dressing that I can use a little bit with Slater but to no avail. I know I can make one but just haven't gotten around to that yet. Guest guest
I think Newman's oil and vinegar is a pretty clean product, but I'm surprised Chelsey can tolerate vinegar. How come it's ok for her? a H.
Guest guest
a, As we have all discovered over the years, every one of our kids is unique in regard to symptoms, required diet and supplements, meds, etc. Then, of course, there are significant changes in all of these areas with time...Patterns that hold for many children abide, but uniqueness is the key. Chelsey started off on a strict GF/CF diet and has grown to be able to eat a variety of foods, even gluten with the help of enzymes. She is, however, still quite allergic to cow's milk and we keep that away from her entirely. Her regular diet now and what she was eating a few years ago are radically different. With time, many kids go through such changes...Some don't. This is a general answer to your question: " How come it's OK for her? As for the vinegar issue, Jaquelyn came up with the following: Vinegar The concern in this country has been the possibility of gluten peptides surviving distillation and winding up in distilled vinegar when the source is a gluten-containing grain. Not only is this not possible, but wheat is seldom, if ever, used as a vinegar source. So gluten would not be found in distilled vinegar, which is the kind you will run into almost all of the time in this country Even the wine vinegar in Newman's Own is probably OK for many kids, but perhaps not for all. In any event one can make up one's own dressing with distilled vinegar.
