Guest guest
Hi Don't stress out about it. My little boy was only 18 nonths old when we started.. he is 28 months now and still in diapers. Neither he nor his 28 month old NT sister have a clue or care a bit about the potty so we are waiting. I've always just tried to get the sample from the middle but every one we have sent came from a diaper that also had urine. There was no way to avoid it. I don't think it skewed our results or if it did I don't think it was enough to matter since we've had great results with the treatment plan that came from those tests. Just do the best you can! It will be fine I'm sure. in AL > Anyone have any ideas for getting a stool sample on a diaper kid? I just read the directions and called the lab and there can be no urine contimination. is somewhat potty trained w/ urine only. He won't really poop in the toilet- we have to put a diaper back on him. (From chronic constipation I think...which we hope to help even further w/ diet...) > > It may be possible to get him to go in our training toilet but I really doubt I will be able to get 3 days in a row worth of samples. Should I just postpone this test? > > Thanks > Amy > >
Guest guest
We used to " scoop " from the back area of the diaper, away from where the pee seemed to be in front, (helpful here to be dealing with a boy!), and didn't scoop too deeply, so if any pee had leaked back in the diaper, we'd be taking the top layer which we figured wasn't in contact with pee. I felt pretty confident that we avoided any contamination. Of course, it also helps to sample from big poops, big enough to give you choice. Good luck! This, too shall pass.... Guest guest
I was told that it is important to avoid contact with the gel of the diaper more than the urine. We turned one diaper inside out so that the outside was against the skin and then a second diaper on the outside in case there was pee too. As soon as the morning pee came we changed her and then prayed we'd get a poop soon after a meal. We also scooped to the middle. For girls who you might have to collect urine. We attached the bag with duct tape (I'm not kidding, we used tiny little pieces), cut a hole in the diaper and let it hang down. The minute you see pee you cut the bag with a scissors that we had rubbed alcohol on and immediately closed the bag with a twist tie. (Towels help out here. Then refridgerate it (a coffee cup can hold it upright) until you can get it to the lab or doctor's office. Having fun yet? Terri > Anyone have any ideas for getting a stool sample on a diaper kid? Guest guest
will wear " big boy underwear " and pee in the toilet and sometimes poop in the underwear- so maybe that would be better than the diaper? The thing is he tends to just hold it in when wearing underwear so I am leary that I would get samples 3 days in a row. It said the samples were to be at the lab 5 days after collection but I wasn't clear if that was the 1st day or the last day. I also don't know if the 24 test is being done. I was going to do this this weekend but I am thinking I need to call the doc so will probably be waiting. I do think the pee test will be easy...easier....I just don't know how to get that first morning sample because he generally goes at night and then not until after juice in the morning.
