Hi,

Would elevated IgM HHV-6 of 30 (rr 0 - 20) on Immunoscience Panel be cause for

trial of Valtrex?

Generally, yes, depending on the rest of his symptomology. Chelating will

often lower these titers and the clinical picture helps me alongside the lab

results to decide whether to chelate first or do the anti-virals first.

After starting one and getting the child stabilized I will often add the

other if both seem indicated. Dr. JM

Is Valtrex or Famvir preferred for high IgMs to HHV-6(30) and Herpes 1 & 2

(401 reference range = <100)?

I always use tried, true and safe Valtrex first, only going to Famvir if

Valtrex shows no benefit after 2 months. Dr. JM
