Decreased testosterone is seen in other critical illnesses.

Note that when cortisol, the " stress " hormone, increases testosterone tends

to decrease.

In stress situations, where the body is under attack testosterone may

decrease.

There are other theories too.

Subject: Low testosterone, causes?

I'm not sure anyone knows what the cause is. Decreased testosterone

levels were seen long before protease inhibitors entered the picture,

though.
