I get that way too! I have to be very careful of things that can cause gas like sodas or hot beverages! I have gone to the ER several times with the chest pains and they told me Pepcid or some type of gas reliever is going to help.

I was having that chest pain and it was hard to move air.

I took a treatment and it helped but it still didn't go away

like usual so I started drinking what and it went away.

Is it that I get so tight that gas can't escape, causing

the chest pain. I know I did alot of burping and passing gas before the pain stopped. I don't think I'll ever understand Asthma.

Hi Char,

I too have pains that are gas related. In the past five years or so, I

wake up with a sharp pain, and it will not go away unless I drink a

couple of swallows of water. I can lay there and be miserable, but now

I know to get up and drink. Not too much...just a couple of

swallows...and that sometimes hurts going down. But the next thing I

know is that I get a huge burp, and I can go back to sleep. It is like

a spasm of gas that gets trapped....it happens at night only. This one

hurts real bad and I cannot sleep...but I am just learning how to cope

with it.

I get hiccups during the day all the time too. I attribute that to lack

of oxygen at one point or another along with trapped gas. I am still

experimenting with my trapped gas. Sometimes I take a couple swallows

of seven up and that brings up good burps. But if I just decide to

drink seven up just because it tastes good...not to bring up gas I get

worse gas pains further down in my system that are really bad.

I wholly attribute my gas problems to my asthma....sometimes I just

don't get the oxygen in my lungs....totally my problem with asthma and

my digestive system.

We take the generic form of zantac every night now.....Rodney has acid

reflux bad....one time five years ago our doctor prescribed him

albuterol of all things then! Now it is coming back, so we are doing

the zantac thing. They had told me to elevate the bed 30 degrees as

well...that it would help any acid reflux, plus bring on a benefit with

anyone with asthma. I was really dumfounded at how one would raise the

bed 30 degrees....so I "hired" help...they put some four by fours under

the head of the bed?

Seven up can be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on how

you use it. I used to take seven up when I got food poisoning/stomach

flu when I was growing up and even got mature. It is a heavily

carbonated beverage...it stops the urge to throw up, and brings up gas,

but on the other hand had to not drink it as a social beverage because

it if not used for that would create gas on further down. What a

vicious cycle LOL!!
