Guest guest
Our 17 year old son is adamant about not having any children. He tells us that he would not want to bring a child into this world to suffer what he has gone through with his Chiari. We tell him that by that time, maybe they will have come up with a cure, or even know the exact transmission of Chiari from one family member to another. Even if we knew the percentage of risk of passing the Chiari Gene, young couples could make better decisions for parenthood. We tell him that adoption is an option if he feels so strongly about not having children of his own but still would like to experience being a parent. We told him you could love an adopted child just the same. My husband and I encourage our son to find alternatives to lead to solutions for some of these Chiari related problems.
