I went for a long time without having my surgery. I was 28 when I went through

the decompression surgery and my NS said that I was lucky that I made it past 14

years of age without it.

As a result one of my permanent problems now is that my short-term memory is

almost non-existant. It's a year and a half now post-operation and I find that

my memory is still improving but it is nothing compared to what it once was.

For an example, immediately following the surgery I couldn't tell you what year

it was, what day of the week it was, what month it was or how old I was. Then

it improved to the point where I knew those answers but I couldn't remember what

I did yesterday. The prior day would just be a complete blank. Now I can

remember most of the past 2-3 days though those 2-3 days usually seem like 2-3

weeks when trying to recall what exactly happened.

My long-term is also pretty bad up to a certain point. I can tell you what

happened 10-12 years ago much easier then I could tell you what happened 2-3

years ago.

I can kind of compare this to what it feels like if you had a concussion. I had

a bad one from a fall I took about 10 years ago and for the next 6 months after

that things were almost as confusing.

Some days now I can wake up and everything sort of make sense.... others I wake

up and it's like my mind is still asleep... everything is just jumbled up.
