I'm only 37 years old, but we pay a mint for health insurance and other items our insurance doesn't cover (we have an astronomically high deductible). Would people with chiari be eligible? Guest guest Posted March 3, 2008 Report Share Posted March 3, 2008 Hi Becki, Medicare is available for those that are on Social Security Disability after two years(or retirement age). Actually two years five months, which includes the five month waiting period. Our self-employment health insurance is very expensive too, and we are considering dropping me off the policy once I am eligible for Medicare in August, due to being eligible. Hope this helps.
