Hi Sue and everyone else,

I feeeeeeel your pain, concern and aggravation. I had the same problems with

my decompression incisions and my shunt incisions. Actually, any incision

or injury.

The best advice I can give is to watch for infection and keep the area

clean.

If you use peroxide to keep it clean, don’t use it full strength.

For antiseptic, I use betadyn and, depending on how big the openings are, I

used to live w/ using the paint on plastic band - aide stuff you can get at

a pharmacy. I think it’s called NuSkin. It’s almost a waiting game with

these kinds of problems. I had a head incisional area opening up off and

on for over a year! Thankfully, as time went on, the incision splittings

got smaller and smaller. Whew.

I’d be curious to see how other EDS’rs have handled this problem. Also, I

recommend that if you aren’t already a member of the CEDA discussion group,

that you join. That EDS list has been a life saver for me!

Incision opening up

Hi everyone,

I had decompression surgery on Feb.8th, 2008 at TCI. My stitches were

removed on Feb.22nd. There were three spots were there were scabs. Last

week the scabs came off and I have openings in my incision. We emailed

Dr. B. and he said that this is a consequence of EDS. Has anyone else

have this happen to them and what did you do? We followed Dr. B's

advice and saw a plastic surgeon yesterday and had the openings cleaned

out. I am worried about infection and healing properly. If there is

anyone out there who had this happen please share your experience with

me.

Sincerely,

Sue from Wi
