Hi I am as baffled as anybody. We are on our 10th month of Valtrex. My son probably has the highest tither on this list and the highest that several DANs had ever seen. We had one month of mild behavior regression and one rash, but nothing to write home about. His OCD is slightly better but the big change has been gross motor coordination and reagaining equilibrium. He stopped spinning. He is definitely smarter and now can answer questions in a more abstract way. He is learning to read and do math. Cognitively he was not ready when we started Valtrex. He seems quirkier than ever though. And he is less able to control the volume of his voice. He still stims on videos a lot but also comes up with some pretty bright stuff. A couple of nights ago, his younger sister was getty cranky and we

were all getting maxed on her. He looked at me and said, "Shouldn't we put that child too bed -- she is so 'Parkay." I asked what Parkay meant and he walked over grabbed one of her little workbooks and pointed to Pre-K and said -- here it says Parkay -- that means she still a baby. Me -- I'm K (for kindergarden) and that means I'm older and get to stay up later." We chuckeled and said, she is not Parkay -- she is Pre Kindergarden which means before Kindgarden. Of course protested and said that she was not Parkay or Pre-K. So, yes, cognitively he is really really with it. But socially, he is still sooooooooooooooooooooooo awkward. A kid asks if he can play with a toy. Instead of just saying, "yes", she says "WELL OF COURSE YOU CAN." We are hoping more chelation, an aide and lithium help. Vera Heller

wrote: Hi Stan and/or parents, I have had my 8 yr old son on valtrex/diflucan for three months. He's into his second really brutal rash right now. My dilemna is this: I just met Dr. Kane who is adamant that drugs such as valtrex are the wrong thing to do for our kids whose livers are already burdened with toxins, etc. She convinced me to stop but when I went to wean him off the valtrex I started having second thoughts. In

some ways he's really not doing better. He's become so obsessed with rewinding videos and stimming on the computer and singing that its more difficult to engage with him. And his appetitte and food repetoire have decreased alot which worries me. But there is no denying that his language has improved and he is using more abstract language. He also seems to understand more language. And those rashes! Something bad is coming out. As a parent who has made biomedical mistakes in the past with him, I feel concerned that I haven't seen many reports by parents saying that valtrex has helped recover their kid. I don't mean to be provocative, I'm just seeking. I went to the files section and nearly all the reports are from the first month or so of starting valtrex. What are the 8 monthers, 1 year people reporting? That is my questions because I

know from experience that alot of people, including me, see good results with something at the very beginning and then the gains seem to stop or they actually get worse. Any info on longer term valtrex users or any input into helping me make the right decision are so appreciated. Thank you. H Check out the all-new Yahoo!
