Guest guest
Thanks Vera. I’ve tried upping the CLO and never saw any differences so I was thinking from your post maybe I was missing the extra need for zinc. I’ll give it a try to check (he’s really sensitive so I will start very slow) - From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of Vera Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2007 1:01 AM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: RE: MB12; ; Zinc Monomethionine Hi Regardless of the reason your child is hand stimming, I recommend zinc monomethionine (or zinc polinate). It just really really helps so many behaviors. My whole family is on it, and we think we all benefit. The brand we get is called Complementary Prescriptions. You can contact them at: . Here is the website. You may to have your doctor's office get it for you. We get ours from our DANs Dr. Bob Sears and Dr. Jerry Kartzinel. It is not an Rx, but you need to contact them in terms of how to get it. Here is the website. http://www.cpmedical.net/ If you are not able to get it, I would ask the list our google for other recommendations. Zinc monomethionine is very very strong. I would start out in tiny doses throughout the day (it tastes yucky -- so the small doses work better) with food. If you give it on an empty stomach he may vomit (I did). I have had white lines on my nails (zinc deficiency) my entire life and tried all the standard forms of zinc, but only the monomethionine made them go away. After almost two years, can take them on an empty stomach. That is how I tried and promptly threw up. I recommend it to just about everyone. It is the most absorbable form and it really really helps just overall behavior. ************** I would say IMO that there are several types of " odd " eye / hand beahvior. We had the luxury of living with all of them. Sometimes they need vision therapy to help improve. But I do not think therapy alone with help. You are aware of most of these issues, but I will go through in case any one else is following the thread. 1. Hand gazing, side glancing, staring at objects really really close up even though they can see objects across the room. Often these behaviors are attributed to damaged retinoid receptors (see Megson's work). Bethanehcol and Omega 3s really help these behaviors. At age 3.5 his vision processing was about 80% delayed. Now it is normal. The reason for the hand gazing is that the hand literally appears to detach from the arm -- and well you can imagine why they stare. About 1 in 8 to 1-10 ASD kids are affected. Bethanehcol is an Rx and can according to several DANs, can lower the seizure threshhold. But bethanechol was a really great intervention for . 2. Hand gazing as a stimming type behavior which can be either yeast or OCD. 3. Sporadic hand violence (very very very rare) and is only one of a handful of kids of several thousand on CK2 that experienced this -- all the affected kids had the problem right after starting MB12 and all outgrew it on zinc monomethionine. It does not sound like this is what your son is doing. One minute they are sitting, playing happily and the next minute they are attacking a hand like a caged animal going after prey. It has not happened in over a year. But every once in a while someone posts that they just started MB12 and now their child is attacking the hands. We always say -- go for the zinc. 4. Watching TV etc upside down -- I think this one is viruses. Prior to Valtrex he spent a good part of his day upside down and/or dragging his head along the floor or along the wall. 5. Weird gazes and staring at things up close can also be due to plain blurry vision and loss of peripheral vision and/or double vision: Several neurologists documented that had no peripheral vision and saw double. We think these improved with CLO and DMPS suppositories. MB12 and Valtrex were not enough. ********* Regardless of the reason your child is hand stimming, I recommend zinc monomethionine. Best wishes and I hope this answers your questions -- let me know if I need to clarify. Vera Chap 'n Ali <chapnalliverizon (DOT) net> wrote: Vera, Thanks for the detail!! My son’s “hand stimming” Not flapping more like hand staring really (then he makes them fly in the air) took off during and after valtrex. We were on a small amount of zinc drink from metagenics. But we are out. Do you think I should switch to the zinc monomethinonine? I saw some capsule form at Wild Oats and almost picked it up from your recommendations but went with a different kids one. Now since you related that major hand looking I’m wondering if I should jump on the zinc monomethionine. What kind of hand stimming did your son do? Also he has become a little more aggressive at school like never before (with his aide) I was thinking it was because we were out of zinc. I’ve been concentrating so heavily on the yeast maybe I’m missing a more important component at the moment. Thanks in advance for your input, From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of Vera Sent: Saturday, January 06, 2007 1:00 AM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: MB12 Vera; last one; A while back I listed some supplements that can help with the positive negative side effects of MB12. We eventailly formed a mini-group of about 10 kids that a hard time with MB12 and I wanted to include some of the things that worked. I also would very much like to know more regarding the genetics that are a contradiction to MB12. As far as the things below, it goes without saying that the things that worked for some kids were not tolerated by others The problems I list below are also common in ASD, so note that I am talking about a change in the behavior or a worsening of the behavior. 1, Hyperness and stimming: taurine and magnesium sulfate cream. Remove TMG if the child is on it and you can replace with DMG or try again later. 2. Sporadic self-inflicted violence: Zinc monomethionine. and some of the other boys would be fine and then all of a sudden start biting their hand. It was not a chronic thing (more likely fungus), but one minute the kid is happy and the next minute he is biting the hand so hard that it bleeds. Some of the boys started to punch a wall. 3. Mood swings, overly emotional, lethargic: Again, zinc monomethionine. 4. Complete spaciness, tics, zombie: It was a reaction to folinic in almost all cases. The problem disappeared when folinic was replaced with folate. 5. Sustained violence not related to a yeast flare up (and you have to be careful with that one): Again, it was a reaction to the folinic. Some kids became zombies while others became violent. 6. Not responding at all to MB12: Adding in the folinic. So what was the nightmare to some kids was a huge part of progress for others. The hand violence we think is linked to a high level of histamines in the blood. If the MB12 starts to create a demand for zinc and a person that may not even be that deficient in zinc starts to use up the zinc, then the result can be psychotic behavior. It got to the point for about the first 6 months on MB12 that if he even looked at his hands, we would run for the zinc. Now he gets by on just 25 mgs per day, but at the time he could not function on less than 80 mgs per day (he was 40 pounds). We even had to do it during chelation. He is such a sweetie now that it is hard to believe we ever lived through that. Best wishes Vera 5.
