Guest guest
Hi, I don't mean to jump down your throat on this (no thyroid pun intended) but you need to get pretty proactive about this ASAP!!! You said you had the fna in 2006??? Hurthle cell lesions can be cancerous or benign. I would think you would have known if it were one or the other back in June of 2006??? Did you do any research or question what they did with the needle biopsy and what the results were? If it were me I would want to get a copy of every single scrap of paper related to your thyroid medical condition and get it yesterday!!! You need to read, read and read some more and figure out if the people in charge of your health care are doing the proper things for you. These Hurthle cells are not funny if they are cancerous and you need to know if your needle biopsy showed any cancer cells or if it was benign cells. Sounds to me like you need to know a lot more about your own treatment before anyone here can help. Your labs are hinky but that all depends on if you are getting thyroid medication. Please let us know a little more about your history and current treatment. If it were me I would have them take that lesion out and biopsy the sucker. These cells like to metastasize if they are of that nature. You surely don't want that. I have had too many idiot doctors try to pretend they know what the hell they are doing to let this post go by. Get proactive right away. Call Monday morning and tell the doctor's office you are on your way to get copies of everything. Read them and then post what you don't understand and maybe someone here will know what it means. I am going to go out on a limb and assume the lesion was benign since they didn't do anything. I am assuming they didn't do anything because you didn't report anything else. Sorry to get so worked up over this, it is just amazing what doctors will and won't do to people. I have seen too many people report their doctor nearly killed them and I am one of those people so I believe each and every one of them. Don't you become one of those people by blindly going along with all of this. Open your eyes wide!!! Get busy!!! a in North Idaho > > I had a fna on June 5, 2006 and the results are (nodule is 1.25 cm): > Hurthle cell lesion-see comment. > > comment: few lymphoid cells noted, suggested lymphocytic > (Hashimoto's) thyroiditis. > > What are hurtle cell lesion and could this lead to cancer? > > My blood work: > > 1/31/06 > > TSH .56 (.40-4.0) > Thyroxine Total 12.7 (5.0-10.8) > > 3/10/06 > > Thyroxine Total 15.7 (5.0-10.8) > TSH .58 (.40-4.0) > T3 Resin Uptake 23 (27-39) > T3, Total 1.84 (.60-1.81) > FTI 3.6 (1.4-4.2) > > 6/5/06 > > Thyroxine Total 17.2 (5.0-10.8) > TSH .21 (.40-4.0) > T3 Resin Uptake 27 (27-39) > FTI 4.6 (1.4-4.2) > > Any advice and comments are welcomed. Guest guest
Hi, I think this is a serious matter and should have been aggressively dealt with in 2006. This is what a friend wrote who had hurthle cells from an FNA: At one point my doctor seemed conservative and didn't want me to do the surgery at all - but when he saw that they found my Hurthle cells he sent me right to surgery knowing that the only way to find out if that particular cell is malignant or benign (its a 50-50 shot and its either all bad or all good) was to do a full surgical dissection with frozen sections. I was in surgery within two hours. As for your labs, they are useless; these tests are old worthless obsolete tests. You need the Free T3 and Free T4 to see what's actually going on. This is a 2005 study: Fine-needle aspiration biopsy specimen with a predominance of Hürthle cells: a dilemma in the management of nodular thyroid disease. According to the study anyone with Hurthle cells and a nodule should have it removed. " As a result, thyroidectomy is recommended for all patients with a thyroid nodule and a predominance of Hürthle cells on FNAB specimen. " ( FNAB = A fine-needle aspiration biopsy) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez? Db=PubMed & Cmd=ShowDetailView & TermToSearch=16269293 & ordinalpos=1 & itool= EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVAbstractPlus (Remember YAHOO breaks links so copy/paste to your browser.) There may be studies that conclude otherwise, but I have never come across one. Find a doctor that knows how to treat thyroid nodules and do it yesterday. Good luck, Bj > > > > I had a fna on June 5, 2006 and the results are (nodule is 1.25 cm): > > Hurthle cell lesion-see comment. > > > > comment: few lymphoid cells noted, suggested lymphocytic > > (Hashimoto's) thyroiditis. > > > > What are hurtle cell lesion and could this lead to cancer? > > > > My blood work: > > > > 1/31/06 > > > > TSH .56 (.40-4.0) > > Thyroxine Total 12.7 (5.0-10.8) > > > > 3/10/06 > > > > Thyroxine Total 15.7 (5.0-10.8) > > TSH .58 (.40-4.0) > > T3 Resin Uptake 23 (27-39) > > T3, Total 1.84 (.60-1.81) > > FTI 3.6 (1.4-4.2) > > > > 6/5/06 > > > > Thyroxine Total 17.2 (5.0-10.8) > > TSH .21 (.40-4.0) > > T3 Resin Uptake 27 (27-39) > > FTI 4.6 (1.4-4.2) > > > > Any advice and comments are welcomed. Guest guest
Hi ! I have been taking Levothroid .125mg on Sept 06. All of the results that i have just posted....I was not taking any thyroid hormone. Thank you so much for responding to my question. Guest guest
Hi a! I have been worried about this lately. My mom has ovarian cancer and it really has me thinking maybe I have thyroid cancer. I hope I don't have it and the results are that it is benign, but it doesn't say in the report that it is benign. The endo said it is benign. Kinda of strange isn't it?? > > > > I had a fna on June 5, 2006 and the results are (nodule is 1.25 cm): > > Hurthle cell lesion-see comment. > > > > comment: few lymphoid cells noted, suggested lymphocytic > > (Hashimoto's) thyroiditis. Guest guest
, I just read Bj's post and we both are saying the same thing to you. Figure out what is going on and do it yesterday!!! If the endo told you it was benign, find out why. Find out if a sample was sent to a lab and tested and a lab says " begign " or if your endo is just guessing. I wouldn't trust an endo as far as I could throw them. My endo (who I fired a few years ago) was about 98 pounds so I figure I could throw her a few feet. I wouldn't even trust her that much. I wouldn't trust the other endos I saw in the years before seeing her either. I know there are several folks here who will tell you never, never, never trust an endo. I have heard some real horror stories about endos. I have it really bad because I don't trust doctors one bit. Not a one of them, ever!! You have to be your own doctor and research, read and learn about your own results. I cannot stress this enough. Hopefully and probably your endo told you your lesion was benign because there was proof in black and white. You need to see that proof with your own two eyes. You need to prove to yourself that your endo made that proper diagnosis from the proper tests. Bj is right, your blood work is worthless and based on antiquated tests that most doctors don't even run anymore because they have figure out they are worthless and there are much better labs now days. This worries me. Your doc is running antiquated tests on you and you have a possible serious health problem. I doubt your mom having ovarian cancer will indicate your risk for thyroid cancer. I am sorry about your mom. I hope she is doing OK. My mom just found out she has breast cancer but it will have a happy ending because they caught it early. Yes, I do think it is strange that the report doesn't say the lesion is benign. Find out if your endo was reading another report or his crystal ball. Please...find out tomorrow morning!! If you have to go to his office and demand the reports figure out what he based his opinion on. Ask...sit in his office until you get an answer. If you don't get an answer then he was using his crystal ball and they are not very accurate or scientific. You asked earlier how often you should have certain tests. I think you need to totally regroup and start from scratch. If there is a biopsy report other than the one you have and it says benign then have another needle biopsy at the end of the year, as planned, to see if you get a second 'benign' report. If there isn't a report that exists that says benign I would be raising holy hell at that endo's office. Really, get busy, get angry and get provable answers right away. If you do have thyroid cancer you can take solace in the fact that they are usually slow growing and typically not deadly. Again, if it were my body and they said Hurthle cells I would have them take the lesion completely out and get the entire 1.25cm biopsied. It would probably be a day surgery. Better to be safe than sorry. Please keep us posted and I want to read your posts in the next few days that say you got all of your reports and that you have been aggressive with your life!!! a in North Idaho > > Hi a! > > I have been worried about this lately. Guest guest
Have you had any antibodies testing, like for Grave's Disease or Hashimoto's? Did i miss this in another post? That's an awful lot ot T4 hormone production for someone who doesn't take by mouth, and it's all coming from the gland itself. Doesn't mean it's being utilized, however. Strange, though, how that T4 keeps climbing up up up. Guest guest
But didn't the endo ask to see the full report, and it hasn't been furnished to him/her yet? Isn't that you, or do I have you confused with someone else? Re: Hurthle Cell Lesion???? > Hi a! > > I have been worried about this lately. Guest guest
Hi a! I have emailed a person that deals with appointment in the endo's office to see if I can get an earlier appointment or if I can get on a cancel list so that if someone cancels I will take that appointment. Thanks so much for your post. I thought taking a pill is all I needed to do. I still don't feel 100%, but I have improve more then I did last year. I was soooo tired I couldn't even clean my house or could barely make it at work. My cousin is hypo, my uncle is hypo, two aunt had a thyroid condition/disease, my grandmother had a goiter and had to have her whole thyroid removed. Thanks, > > > > Hi a! > > > > I have been worried about this lately. My mom has ovarian cancer and > > it really has me thinking maybe I have thyroid cancer. Guest guest
Hi , I do have the copy of the report and it doesn't say benign. My endo just told me that it is benign. Now I am thinking hhhhmmmm. Why didn't I question it then, why did I wait all this time. I was looking through all my blood work and the fna and thought strange my fna results do not say benign. Guest guest
Hi ! No, I haven't had any antibodies. I have requested, but they will not do any of them. Plus my fna says I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I don't know why t4 is so high. Would you or anyone else know why. Would this have to do with adrenal or piturary gland? This was before I starte .125mg Levothroid. Thanks, > >> > >> Carroll > >> > >> You don't say whether you have been taking thyroid hormones or > > not.
