By the way, last semester I took a class in weight lifting and the instructor told us to rest if we had a cold or flu or anything like that. He said that it's not good for you to exercise while you're ill. Get lots of fluids and take it easy. I'll be thinking healthy thoughts in your direction! Guest guest
Hey Greg People with AS are well documented to have poor immune systems, they are seemingly magnets for viral infections especially those that are cold/flu like. I'm going to ask one of the Psychologists here to do a write up about this if that's acceptable to Tom and Inger? She has been working with AS for over twenty years and gets very frustrated on our behalf that no-one ever talks to us about things that are common. We're also prone to bruising, stretch marks, poor scarring and also hyper-mobility syndrome; we don't produce collagen and elastin in the way other people do. Hyper-mobility causes excessive wear and tear on our joints which age faster so at forty I have the spine of an eighty year old and have had shoulder replacements and now am facing a hip replacement. If Tom or Inger would help me I will get to write something we can put up for you all to read? I'll wait to get feedback from them. What's been a bigger problem for me than that is digestive disorders. I wrote earlier about my stay in the hospital (with three surgeries/procedures) a couple of years ago for gall bladder issues. Even though I was only hospitalized for a week, my partner tells me that he saw recognizable hospital signals that I was a high-risk patient at the time. Now I'm taking two weeks of nasty and annoying medicines for h. pylori overgrowth and ulcers. I don't (that I know of) have celiac disease, diverticulitis, crohn's or any of the other " gut diseases " but I have a lot of trouble with digestion and elimination. Is this a normal Aspie thing, too? >We're also prone to bruising, stretch marks, poor scarring definitely me! >and also hyper-mobility syndrome; we don't produce collagen >and elastin in the way other people do. > >Hyper-mobility causes excessive wear and tear on our joints which >age faster so at forty I have the spine of an eighty year old and >have had shoulder replacements and now am facing a hip replacement. I'll have to look into that more. Is it just the joints or also the ligaments that are affected? My knees get worse every year and it's not the joint (that I can tell) but the ligaments - they seem to be losing their elasticity. My knees hyper-extend if I'm not careful when I walk and fall out of joint at the least provocation. I can't kneel anymore because my knees fall out of joint when I do. Guest guest
We're always eager to read or listen to anything that might be beneficial to members. What you're proposing sounds great. We will eagerly await whatever she writes up! Thanks for the link. I filled out both. I also took the aspie quiz while I was there and got this result: -=-=-=- Your score NOW EARLIER 170 164 You are very likely an Aspie Most Aspies that have answered have scored above 100 (mean 134 for men and 147 for women). Many people with ADD/ADHD also have scored high (mean 115), but not as high. -=-=-=- I might see later if Rob will fill it out as he percieves me now. I sometimes ask him to do that and it's interesting - on some quizzes, when he fills it out by what he knows and observes about me, I will come out as very aspie and on others when he fills it out I come out as very NT. I think it depends on how the questions are worded. He has a (in my opinion, very aspie-like!) tendency to get frustrated with quiz questions that are difficult to interpret, could be interpreted in more than one way or could be answered with totally different answers, depending on the surrounding circumstances. (The again, he seems to be an INTP and that's probably the most aspie-like personality type a person can be (not to say that all aspies are INTPs, just that the INTP personality type is very similar to aspie-ness)) Sparrow
