Do your antibodies ever go down once you start thyroid meds for the

hypothyroidism?

I've been taking meds for over a year and feeling ok for the most

part, and my blood tests show normal range free T3 and free T4 and

TSH, but every single blood test over the past year shows my

antibodies as ALWAYS being " >1,500 " which means they have always been

over 1,500 since I've been diagnosed. Do your antibodies ever go down

or once you have Hashi's, your body always produce high amounts of

anti-thyroid antibodies? What if you have your thyroid removed?

Would that bring the antibodies down since they would no longer have a

thyroid to attack?

Hi Helena and ,

Just want to give a quick reply because of time restraints.

The answer is yes, the TPO abs and TG abs decrease sometimes with T

hormone, eating gluten-free, supplementing with selenium and also

once the thyroid has been demised.

Even with removal of the thyroid the abs wouldn't disappear as AIHT

(autoimmune Hastimoto's thyroiditis) is an autoimmune disease not a

thyroid disease although the thyroid is the victim. The antibodies

do not go away once the T gland is removed, often they increase.

IMHO, you have a higher chance of the abs decreasing with a chomped

up gland than the removal of the gland via surgery or RAI.

Also, if you have TSHR abs (TSH receptor abs) more often as a result

of Graves disease, but Hashi patients can have these abs as well; and

the T gland dies (demised by the TPOab's/TGab's), is removed or burnt

out the TSHR abs attack other tissue.
