Guest guest
Hi Donna, well that is interesting because I have also been dx’ed with a “nonspecific inflammatory arthritis”, but as I am allergic to all the usual drugs the rheumy didn’t prescribe them. He put me on Neurontin, which is an antiseizure medication that can really help with pain. Prednisone can be OK to get things under control, but there sure are negative effects from long term use. And the Methotrexate is a pretty heavy-duty drug. I also use Curcumin (you get it from the health food/vitamin store, it’s not expensive), which is an excellent anti-inflammatory herb that is as effective as many NSAIDS – worth a try before trying the metho? Good luck with all this. Sorry about the SSD woes, it seems to be quite a big hassle for you Americans, and my heart goes out to you. What did you study in school? Anyway I do hope that you are feeling better and less stiff very soon! Aylwin xox
Guest guest
Been there done that…the best pain agent I have found is Curcumin (herbal, from the health food store). Some folks’ arthritis is responsive to diet, salicylate elimination, alkalization, eating organic and so on, and some not. But what the Neurontin helps me with is not pain, but the “neuro flares” as I have been calling them, but more properly called “excitatory neurotoxicity” by Cheney and others. It is amazing the difference it is making in this aspect, which was making my life hell. Neurontin is basically just GABA, a neurotransmitter that is essential for parasympathetic activation and so addresses the problem directly. It is an old and well-tolerated drug, even for the sensitive like me. You can start with baby doses and work your way up. Cheney says it protects the brain from damage.
