I was planning on accessing my desktop from home using Windows XP Pro network,once I get high-speed access at home. I don't know if that will work. Other tricks to access charts - I bring home my USB keychain every night - so a current version of my charts is always available. If I do catch up over the weekend at home - I just copy over the database files that are newest to the keychain and take them in on Monday and install them into my AC folder at work. In terms of patient calls and chart retrieval, there aren't that many calls and I know most of my patients quite well, because there aren't 10,000 of them.

I found the Medware PM software by accident, when talking to another MD in the area who did his own solo practice. There are two versions - one expensive at around $7,000, the other more basic (though plenty of bills and whistles for my needs) at about $1500. That $1500 includes the e-claims software and a scheduler. I just got the e-claims uploading about a week ago. We have received acceptance notices on all the HCFAs so far, so I guess that means I'll get paid. . . It's hard to buy the $1500. version because you have to keep reminding them they sell it instead of the $7,000 version. Tech support is $75.00 a month - you don't have to keep it to get the e-claims service. The monthly charge for e-claims is about $55.00 OR you can pay by the claim, which I'm doing, as apparently many of the HMOs I use are running those claims for free - I'm expecting to pay about $20. a month total. We'll see.

There is a software company that's building a bridge for Amazing Charts and this program, apparently. I'm waiting to see if it's what I need or want.

Larry- I explained how I do the charts at home in a previous e-mail. To be specific, I copy off the 0-hour back-ups from my USB drive that are generated all day, rename them, install them in my home computer - then recopy the data files back the other way. It's a bit hair-raising and I only do it if it's worth the small hassle. I do want to just use remote access with Windows PC, when I can.

The amazing charts program does look quite good. I recently

downloaded it and looked it over. It looks like it would deliver for

most primary care offices in this low cost model a very cost

effective solution for medical records.

What do you consider its weak points? How do you scan into the

chart? What features do you wish it had. I frequently am asked

for recommendations and this is one on my list. I have used

soapware and currently am using Alteer. I recently looked at A4 but

it is cumbersome and does not look like too easy to use.

I tried using a program called asutype inside this program and it

worked well. This program allow spell check inside another program

and to put in canned blocks of text with a few simple keystrokes.

i did try it but you need alot of ram to run it.. ll which hardware do you
