Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the welcome! Carol, did you have any bad affects from the prednisone? I hear you can get ’s disease and Osteoperosis. Were you cured after 5 years. The doctor I go to now is a big believer in it and I am not. I think I got sick from working at Home Depot. I worked there for 5 ½ years. I was ok the first 2 years. Is your asthma controlled by those 2 meds? I imagine you are very active. Do you have allergies? What area are you from? Barb Welcome to the group! I dont take some of the meds you do but i know how it goes with prednisone for a long period of time! I was on 20mg for over 5 yrs! I take Advair and Accolate for my asthma as singulair MADE me sick! I have had asthma since i was 4 so i know how you feel. Im a 40 yr old mom of 3 boys and run a daycare in my home. I was told by several of my drs NOT to even go into a place that has lumber and is dusty, much less WORK there. I hope your ok to go back. Be careful. Im sorry i cant offer anymore help than this but i wanted to welcome you and say hi.
Guest guest
Hi Barb and welcome to our group! I too am on chronic steroids and yes, I have tons of side effects from them. I have Cushings, Osteonecrosis, Osteopenia and cataracts all caused by steroid use. I also have adrenal issues, although you can't have 's & Cushings at the same time. I've been on steroids non-stop for 2 years now, but have been off & on since my early 20's. (I'm 39). It's not much of a choice though. I can't live if I can't breathe and I can't breathe without the steroids. I can however live with the nasty side effects. I don't like them. I downright hate them, but I like living more! As far as meds go, I'm currently on Medrol (methylprednisolone) and hydrocortisone for the steroids and my other asthma meds include: Zyflo CR, Spiriva, Asmanex, Perforomist, Xopenex, Duoneb, Zyrtec, Xolair and albuterol. I've had my IGe tested, but I don't know the specific numbers. I do qualify for Xolair injections which is an antibody that attaches to your IGe to help stop allergic asthmatic reactions. Feel free to email me for more info or if I can be of any help to you. :-) Take care and again welcome! Guest guest
I wouldn't have thought prednisone would cause addisons, as that is a lack of the hormone (cortisol?), whereas taking prednisone would mean you were getting extra, which is where the risk of cushings syndrome, the opposite of addison's disease comes in. Unless, of course, you stopped taking it too quickly, as then the sudden drop in hormone could result in addison's like symptoms, Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. Guest guest
From my understanding the prednisone overrides the adrenal glands. I may have this backwards though. Don't think too clearly all the time right now. However, doesn't really matter. The high dosages cause Cushings and a whole host of other issues which are hard to deal with.
