Guest guest
I think she is dead on for suggesting elimination. Obviously something is going on with her body and she isnt able to break down something in her diet. We took out everything and then eventually put things back one at a time. It took forever but it was way worth it to know what was causing it. Subject: Re: Chiropractor/Nucca DoctorTo: miralax Date: Saturday, October 4, 2008, 12:23 PM Hi Diane,I'm sorry that your daughter and you have been through so much. There are a lot of supportive friends here - so thank you for sharing & I'm sure you will get lots of encouragement, support, and suggestions.I was just wondering if she has ever tried eliminating any foods from her diet or if she's ever been tested for food intolerances (via IgG testing - blood; or Enterolab stool IgA testing; NOT by scratch test or blood IgE or IgA)? The delayed food allergies are detected differently than most mainstream allergists/doctors usually test in regard to "allergies" so I think a lot get missed.I ask because your daughter's story sounds much like myself as a young adult - I had a history of sinus infections and ear infections (I had so much fluid in my ears all the time that when I went to a new doctor, he actually asked if he could have all his partners and nurses look in my ears because he'd never seen anything like it). I went off to college on 6 months worth of antibiotics for a "sinus infection" - but looking back I now know if I'd gone off wheat/dairy it probably would've cleared up on its own. I got mono. I started having bouts of diarrhea - very severe. went off the antibiotic and dairy and that improved somewhat, but then I had what was diagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). I eventually got used to the congestion in my head/sinuses and the bowel distress - just figured that was "me" and my "normal" - and I also got tired of being told I was 'perfectly healthy' and that I was just stressed out not taking good care of myself (this while I was running 5K's several times a year and training for a marathon.... ). Thing is - as a runner I was eating more and more carbs - and invariably that means more and more wheat/gluten. So I was aggravating a condition that NO ONE suspected or suggested to me.Years later - with my oldest son's constipation problem to figure out - pieces of the puzzle started coming together for him and for me. I found first by blood IgG test that he was intolerant of gluten (among other things.....he has leaky gut - as do I). Both boys and I went gluten free (we were already dairy free because I had independently figured out that helped both my sons while nursing....) Before I knew it, I found I was responding. I ordered Enterolab testing for myself and the boys - and lo and behold I'm a Celiac, my oldest is, too, and my youngest has major gluten intolerance. So, long story - but wanted to tell you that I wish when I was a teen/young adult, someone would have suggested to me that foods could be at the bottom of my health issues rather than loading on meds and telling me it was mostly (sometimes all) in my head.... I can't say that gluten and dairy were 100% of my problem - but I have improved and my boys have improved dramatically. We also have mercury issues (me - tons of amalgam fillings; boys got it from me via gestation and breast feeding). We are also currently intolerant of corn, soy, egg, and peanut - but I hope that we can heal the 'leaky gut' aspect of our issues and perhaps go back to some of these foods (but never gluten or dairy). It may not be your daughter's answer, but perhaps it can help to find out one way or another. . . .hth!>> Please bare with me so I can get my story out....> > For the past 4 years, my daughter has battled with health issues. > These started around the age of 15. Guest guest
I disagree, once you've broken down the bacteria so bad, nothing can be tolerated and never will until you replenish what was wiped out, therefore eliminating things isn't fixing the problem.......................... Guest guest
I agree with your situation But we don't know this is in her case, So, the best thing to do would be to intoduce a probiotic FIRST, because this would tell you with in weeks if that was truely the problem and by re-introducing the good bacteria, will heal the immune system vs. eminiation of diet can take years to figure out, and can be dangerous. I am not a doctor but I can tell you no matter where you go they always test a stool sample first to find out if the bacteria is indeed deficient and they go from there................... Subject: Re: Chiropractor/Nucca DoctorTo: miralax Date: Saturday, October 4, 2008, 11:37 PM Jeanie,I am in favor of probiotics & have been an advocate of them from dayone with my oldest son. In fact, it was the first thing I thought offor him when he was an infant with colic and mucus-y stools. When Igave birth to him, I was given antibiotics and when I first startedresearching the possible causes of his colic, mucus-y stools, and GIdiscomfort, I was convinced it was due to a failure to establish agood gut flora. I have supplemented him with probiotics since he was3 months old. However, 4 years later I now know he and I are both Celiacs and myyoungest is technically gluten intolerant. NO amount of probiotics orgut flora homeostasis is going to change the medical fact that we canNEVER ingest gluten again without it being detrimental to our GIhealth and overall health.Eliminating foods that a person's body cannot tolerate is not only agood idea, in my opinion, it is a critical step to healing the gut. If the gut is not well due to continual damage caused by ingestion offoods that aren't tolerated, there is very little likelihood that thegood gut flora can be established. You can supplement all you want, but the goal is to establish permanent 'good guy' residents in the GItract. The GI environment is not going to be hospitable to the 'goodguys' if the immune system is continually over-reacting and damagingthe GI tract on account of leaky gut and food intolerances.I know for many people (including myself at first), the idea ofeliminating one or more foods (particularly gluten and dairy - twoAmerican diet staples) is overwhelming and perhaps even seems strangeor unhealthy. But I guarantee that we eat even more healthfully nowthan ever before. AND, I wish every minute that I could've saved myoldest son the past 4 years of GI distress and bowel movement troubles. I can see in my youngest that it's working - he started getting constipated when he started eating more and more solid foods. Eventhough he was still breastfeeding, he went from pooping every day togetting constipated (not going for 3, 5, 7 days) with the introductionof breads, pretzels, and other gluten foods. Thankfully, before heturned 1 year, we started learning about the gluten problem for myolder son which led to our learning about all of us. Almostimmediately upon removing gluten from our diets, my youngest beganhaving a BM EVERY SINGLE DAY again. I know when we've had anaccidental infraction as soon as my little one doesn't have a BMwithin 24 hours. If I had known this for my older son, perhaps that would be the onlyintervention I'd have to do for his bowels to move regularly. Instead, he's had 3.5 years of gluten-induced damage (which, by theway includes not only the immune damage, but gluten also exerts anopioid effect that slows the GI tract/bowels) . That combined with hismercury levels from my amalgams and our current other foodintolerances means he's got more healing to do than my youngest did. No doubt, establishing good gut flora is critical and very beneficial. But, no amount of probiotic can possibly help if a person is a Celiacor otherwise intolerant of one or more foods.> >> > Please bare with me so I can get my story out....> > > > For the past 4 years, my daughter has battled with health issues. > > These started around the age of 15. Guest guest
Diane, Allegra just suppresses the symptoms, whatever is causing this is still taking a toll on the body and weakening the immune system by constantly fighting it, the Allegra depresses the symptoms.................I would try to take her off anything and stick with the probiotic. The fluid in the ears sounds like candida or yeast issues. But something is causing it and you will have her on Allegra forever if you don't figure out what it is. I'd try a Chiropractor or natural medicine. A friend of mine is struggling with so much sinus pressure, he can feel it in his eyes, he went to a girl that does facials and she gave him a steam facial with something like eucalyptus and it drained out for hours.............again, something is causing this...............fyi..............dulcolax has PEG in it as well.............. Jeanie Subject: Re: Chiropractor/Nucca DoctorTo: miralax Date: Sunday, October 5, 2008, 10:37 AM Ok, I am reading everyone's input and have a few more questions...Nattalie, You mentioned your children and acid reflux...Do you use prescripton medication for the acid reflux for your children? I am on the verge of using something. My daughter constantly has a sinus drip or something... she always is sniffling and holds her nostrils to breath in and "pop" her ears and her breath is horrid (pretty embrassing for a young girl). I am so afraid that if I don't give her something for the acid reflux asap that she will have more ear infections. She is actually 19 now and lives in a brand new college dorm building. She has had these issues, but they all started with the chronic sinus/ear infections at the age of 15. She woke up with swollen facial features for about three months before being diagnosed with mono. However, she had been on 7 antibiotics that school year. You asked if there was a specific physical injury, no, but a couple of unbearable emotional incidences occured at the mono specific timeframe. Enough to make anyone have some stomach issues...Regarding the questions about her legs or shoes... She was active in all season sports for all 4 years at her high school. She does have knock knees and had been prescribed orthotics that same year as all the illnesses, as well as, physical therapy for hip and leg pain.I really do believe that the overuse of antibiotics created this whole problem by killing off the good bacteria. However, I would not be surprised if the acid reflux started it with burning the sinuses and ears. I can remember her walking with the field hockey girls one time after a little celebration with snacks, she was talking and laughing then just had a few projectile vomitting episodes and kept on having a good time. I am not even sure when the constipation set in, but I do feel the Miralax compounded my daughter's problems.Regarding the Miralax...This past November was the turning point for me.... her GI doc always made her feel like the constipation was her fault (we saw him for over 2-3 years). He would always say, "you are not staying on your miralax regimen (2X daily), you are not taking the time to poop, you are not having enough fiber, enough fluids"...whatever. He just made her feel sad, she would cry after most visits. The routine was "get an xray, your backed up, do a miralax cleanout." I am mortified to tell this, but in November, he had her do a cleanout 2 days in a row.... 2 dulcolax tablets then 1 hour later 10 capfuls of miralax to 30 oz of fluid drink within 2 hours, followed by 1 dulcolax before bed repeat the next day with only miralax. After the second day, she was vomiting and felt horrible. She had come home from college to do this cleanout, but had to take a engineering exam. She could not miss it. I had to drive her to college while being sick from the miralax so she could take this exam. I will NEVER do that to her again. Even telling you all this breaks my heart. I realize now how lucky we are that she did not have a more severe reaction that weekend.Well looking forward... I am trying to make life better for her. She is a successful college student majoring in civil engineering, which obviously has a lot of stressful classes. I just need to figure out how not to end up making some of the same mistakes as far as medicines again. We are in Delaware and I am trying to find help/support for her and I need to make things better. The doctor I was thinking of using is in Newark, DE. Her name is Dr. Deana Burd and from her website she is a chiropractor that appears to use nucca. Anyone that has used this type of treatment, I would appreciate your personal feedback. Dr. Burd also has listed on her website that she treats for allergies, ear infections, and does nutritional counseling. I have thought about the DAN or naturopath doctors, but I truely would like to find someone who will be covered under our insurance. Not to complain, but college is quite expensive enough:)FYI... I did ask the family doc about a anti fungal script and he told me no. When we talked about the angio edema, he asked, "when's the last time you saw her allergist?"Regarding mold in my home.... I would not think so, but does anyone know how to find out. We have painted every wall within the past 8 years, no carpets but refinished hardwood floors. We tried to get rid of every allergen possible except for our pets. We even removed all of the blown insulation.Again, currently, she is taking allegra and just switched from acidolphilus daily to Kirkman's pro bio gold.Thank you all for your help/advice! !~Diane
Guest guest
All you can do is trial the antacids H2 blockers preferable over prevacid. If she wakes up in the morning without a runny nose then you know it is the reflux. Previcad nexium as a last result because they delay gastric emptying and make bacterial overgrowth worse. Nock knees and leg pain is a sign of an atlas sublaxation. Please take her to the upper cervical for an eval. They will usually do these for free. I really really think that she is out of line. Would you please prove me wrong or right??? I wont be an instant cure for her but I gaurantee you until you fix it you will never get her better. My kids get better everyday, they still arent perfect, they were at negetavie 100 and now they are and 90%/ Subject: Re: Chiropractor/Nucca DoctorTo: miralax Date: Sunday, October 5, 2008, 10:37 AM Ok, I am reading everyone's input and have a few more questions...Nattalie, You mentioned your children and acid reflux...Do you use prescripton medication for the acid reflux for your children?
