Guest guest Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 Jill, It's okay to use it, though it will not necessarily clear all artifact, and it may well clear some data that is not artifact, since it essentially chops off any signal when the overall EEG is above a certain level. So, for example, if a client has a burst of delta related, say, to a head injury, that might cause overall amplitude to rise sharply and trigger the artifact tracker, when in fact it is true EEG. Still, it's better than nothing, since it is more likely to be right than wrong IF...if you pick the correct cutoff level. All I can suggest there is that you set one level (I often start with 30 for adults and 40 for kids) and run the auto artifacter, then scroll through the waveform file and see how much is being grayed out. You can repeat this process multiple times until you find an amplitude that seems to work well for that client. Be aware, though, that the same cutoff won't necessarily work for all sites. The T sites in particular, because they are very near the references, often have much lower amplitudes than sites like Fz, which are further from the references, so you are measuring a greater amount of brain.
