Side-effects such as emotional disturbances, psychosis, and seizures are

possible with Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) but rare.

You were probably listening to a discussion about antimalarials used to

treat malaria (not RA or lupus) - a much different situation. And

although Lariam (mefloquine) has more of a chance of producing CNS

adverse reactions, Lariam is much more effective against certain strains

of malaria than Plaquenil is.

Hi ,

Yes they were discussing it used for Malaria, not RA. It just made me

wonder about the connection. If the Remicade works well I'd like to talk

to my rheumy in a couple of months about discontinuing the Plaquenil, since

that's three DMARDS. It doesn't seem to be doing much to help, and I'd like

to " lighten my load " when it comes to meds.
