Can someone do the math on what this percentage would be please? I'm no math

head :()

I can understand the risk if the person with Hep C had bleeding gums but from

saliva without blood?

Thank you for sharing this Darrin. I'm not saying I doubt this research, I'd

just like to know more.......

Researchers at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents in

Chicago have warned that Hepatitis C can be passed on more easily

than they

thought, after finding traces of the virus in the saliva of those

infected.

They speculate that it could be passed on by kissing or sharing a

toothbrush, and that people with gum disease are particularly at

risk.

Scientists from the University of Washington tested the saliva of 12

people

who were infected with hepatitis C every day for 21 consecutive days.

Of the

248 samples taken, 52 or one in five tested positive for the virus.

Traces

were found in the saliva of seven of the volunteers.

Duncan,

I understand your worry. I think my Daryl secretly worries about the same thing

but look at it this way. How long have you known your wife? I'll bet you've

known her for a few years now? If Hep was so contageous, don't you think we'd

have contracted it by now? I'm not saying that we shouldn't bother with

protecting ourselves from transmission. I guess what I'm saying is that I've

known my Daryl for about 10 years now and I haven't caught it from him yet.

There's something like a less than 2% (please correct me if I'm wrong)

transmission rate between monogamous couples. We're still careful, he doesn't

get his kisses if he has a cracked lip (he hates that!) but that's about the

only thing that would stop me kissing my man!
