Guest guest
Sue, I charge $100/hour for consulting. Since the Canadian $ is valued less than the US $ you may want to consider a higher fee. It is also whatever the market will bear. Hope this helps you out. Young KY Labs Innovators of Fine Personal Products www.kylabs.com Consultant Fees Hello, I have a business question. I've been approached by an established candle company to set up a soap production room, formulate recipes and train 5 or so employees to make soap. The logistics of the set up I believe I can manage, but I don't know how to charge for this kind of service. Does any one here have experience in this, or suggestions as to how to figure out consultant fees? Sue Frelick Turtle Cove Soapworks
Guest guest
I would charge much more as you are going to be 'teaching' 5 or so employee's how to make a product it has taken you many many hours to learn.....as in you would be saving them how much time? How many of your 'secrets' would you be willing to sell? Hopefully you can see where I'm coming from, Cori Consultant Fees Hello, I have a business question. The problem you run into though is competition. When you have trained chemists like and Maurice that will consult for $100 per hour it makes it difficult to charge more that them, and get it. More luck to anyone that can, but let's not forget that if the people are savvy in business, they probably have a good idea what consultants make. Even if they don't know they would be foolish not to do some checking. Not knocking anyone, just trying to bring a little reality to this thread. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Oh Pat I agree for 'consulting'. But what she said was she'd been asked to teach them how to make soap......not just consult. I work with computers and know all about consultant fees......doesn't mean I will 'teach them how to program' for that same fee. I didn't really think my post would have required any more input, it was after all just my opinion. Guest guest
>I didn't really think my post would have required any more input, it was after all just my opinion. The reason I commented was as I stated...to bring some reality to the subject. I think all of us would agree that the most difficult part of the cosmetic/toiletry business is perfecting a formula, this is where a lot of your time is spent. You can hire either of the chemists on this list for $100 per hour to develop a formula. Both chemists have said this on list several times. Sue said " I've been approached by an established candle company to set up a soap production room, formulate recipes and train 5 or so employees to make soap. " I don't know if you would consider setting up a production room consulting or not? I would, because I would be directing people what to do. So what is left? Teaching five people *how* to make soap. You know making soap is not rocket science. $100 per hour translates into $200,000 + per year if you taught 40 hours per week for a year. That is not bad when you consider that most half way bright people can go on the Internet and within a few hours know how to make soap. They may not have a good formula, but if the formula is provided there is no reason why they can't make good soap. If Sue wants the job then she needs information that she can count on. I am simply restating what the chemists have said previously. As far as I know they are the only ones on the list that have this type of experience in the cosmetic/toiletry field. There is nothing cut in stone, you will always see people charge more and you will also find people charging less. It is, after all, what the market can bear. Pat. Guest guest
---Consulting is one fee. Providing recipes/formularies and training materials are seperate issues.I imagine there will have to be some kind of handbook for proper procedures - even to satisfy good work practices- right?
