Hi Folks,

Does anyone know or have been asked if Medicare and/or Medicaid would cover a chair lift in a patients house? Obviously it would have to be proven medically necessary. I spent the last 2 days trying to get the answer from Medicare and Medicaid and keep getting "another phone # " to call. Any guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat Hogan

It has been a long time since I worked with this but I think the mechanism is covered- not the chair- Try contacting the provider of the chairs- they should be able to help you with obtaining coverage information as they will be the ones submitting the bill.

Good luck,

Joan

Good Morning,

The DME provider billing would be responsible for researching the

reimbursement of this item. I would start by contacting them.

Thank You,

I know Medicare covers the chairs when medically necessary, long term

tho - nothing for short term. And the patient must be able to ambulate

once they are standing. It's been a long time since I dealt with this

and I believe they've tightened things up a lot - but it's reimbursed

through DME and the provider's generally know when it will be covered

and when it won't.
