Guest guest
Hi Folks, Does anyone know or have been asked if Medicare and/or Medicaid would cover a chair lift in a patients house? Obviously it would have to be proven medically necessary. I spent the last 2 days trying to get the answer from Medicare and Medicaid and keep getting "another phone # " to call. Any guidance is much appreciated. Guest guest
It has been a long time since I worked with this but I think the mechanism is covered- not the chair- Try contacting the provider of the chairs- they should be able to help you with obtaining coverage information as they will be the ones submitting the bill. Guest guest
I know Medicare covers the chairs when medically necessary, long term tho - nothing for short term. And the patient must be able to ambulate once they are standing. It's been a long time since I dealt with this and I believe they've tightened things up a lot - but it's reimbursed through DME and the provider's generally know when it will be covered and when it won't.
