Guest guest
For those of you concerned about listeria - www.cdc.gov and search listeria - you won't find much. Basically it is an " ubuiquitous " bacteria. In other words, it lives everywhere and is most dangerous to young children and people with struggling immune systems - either from age or other disease. This is the best " info " I could find from the CDC in a five minute search: The interesting part is how it was contracted - at the very end - basically someone's equipment or hands were dirty. And it points out that all food should be handled by clean hands in a clean environment - not just milk. Pretty basic stuff your parents should teach you... nothing major to worry about!! Multistate outbreak of listeriosis--United States, 2000. [No authors listed] Since May 2000, 29 illnesses caused by a strain of Listeria monocytogenes (LM) have been identified in 10 states: New York (15 cases); Georgia (three); Connecticut, Ohio, and Michigan (two each); and California, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin (one each). Dates of LM isolation ranged from May 17 through November 26 with 26 (90%) infections occurring since July 15. When subtyped, the LM isolates from these cases were indistinguishable by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PulseNet pattern numbers GX6A16.0014 by Asc1 and GX6A12.0017 by Apa1) and ribotyping (DUP-1053). This report summarizes the investigation, which linked these cases of listeriosis to eating deli turkey meat.
Guest guest
--- In RawDairy , " wannabe_guru " <wannabe_guru@y...> > Ben I haven't gotten the chance to read other people's responses to your dilemma (sp?) to see if they have asked the same question but is their any chance of reversal of this judgement if you can present data to the contrary? Doctors know absolutely squat about nutrition, and even less about general healthy eating. I come from a family of doctors and am a nurse myself. If you ask most doctors what foods they can get different vitamins/minerals etc from you'll most likely get a huge question mark! Not all doctors are the same of course. . . In fact there is probably a doctor/pediatrician near you that might want to take this on in court. There is enough scientific data out there now to support the consumption of raw milk etc.
Guest guest
I am hoping that there will be a reversal. My lawyer has filed an appeal to the SRS's report finding me guilty of " abuse " for giving raw milk to my daughter who was 7 months at the time. The reason we are appealing the SRS's decision is because the SRS's report was the basis of the judge's ruling to take away my right to have a say in my daughter's health care. What I need for the appeal is cited studies showing that nature has wisely put beneficial organisms in raw goat's milk that reduces the possibility of contracting the fearful organisms such as e-coli, salmonella, TB, camph., and listeria. Those are the main things that the pediatrician deems life threatening from raw goat's milk. I am doing my best to research these issues, but any help I can get would be appreciated. If I win this appeal, it could benefit not just myself, but it could possibly benefit someone in the future who has to deal with this same issue. I read about so many of us fearful of telling our doctors that we drink raw milk or our child drinks raw milk, but honestly, I'm not afraid of telling people I drink it and especially doctors. In my opinion and what I've chosen is that the more doctors realize that their patient's are drinking this nutritious food, it forces them to deal with it. Do any of you think that they will ever be able to put all the raw milk producers out? Never, that will never happen. So I'm not afraid that I'll never be able to nourish my body with raw milk. I'm not going to hide from telling people I drink raw milk, what's the point in that? Think about that for a second. What does the WAP foundation gain by us hiding the fact that we and our children drink raw milk? The WAP foundation is probably our biggest supporter in consuming raw milk. If I'm wrong someone correct me, I'm still kinda new to it. I say, if doctor's, schools, neighbors etc. ask, tell them, don't feel like you have to hide from their persecution. If you feel like you have to hide and are afraid of persecution, then that appears to me that you don't think that you have enough support from the rest of us. I like to feel that I have and will continue to get the support for the choices I've made for myself and my children. That is one of the reasons I've joined this group. There are so few people out there who support our choices that I hope that this is one place we can count on. I got an e-mail from Sally Fallon saying how important my case was because this case isn't just about me and my child. I thanked her for not leaving me on the battle field to fend for myself, she gave me some good news and I'm praying for more cause God know's I can't do this alone. So to all of you who have e-mailed me off list and those of you who have given me encouragement with your posts, thank you. I'll just have to see how it turns out.
