The Powder is not that great, and it will never grow into anything.

You can find Freeze-Dried (item #9951) www.urbanhomemaker.com that, with care may grow up big and strong. That would be my choice if Fresh was not available.

I started trying kefir with powder, was not impressed and found some

grains through the Real Kefir group. Powder is not a mother

culture. Only the real " grains " (they're really more like a curd)

are live mother cultures. A mother culture can last literally

forever and will continue to grow and multiply.

Hey ,

Dom is THE person to ask when there is something about kefir :) he

also owns the kefir_making group. But he's been busy with other things

than online groups, lately, something strange called " life " :)

I haven't ever tried any kefir powder, personally. It will never grow

grains, as it has nothing to do with the grains and just copy part of

them. The powder will not make kefir anymore after some batches, while

the grains will keep their environment unfriendly for bad bacteria.

You can usually get grains from other people for just the cost of

packing and postage.
