Was wondering if anyone else has experienced what feel like thyroid swings

during

menstruation or pre? For the last 3 days or more, I've been in and out of bed

trying so

hard to be productive and not succeeding. It's been pretty bad... I was thinking

what's this,

I *increase* my dosage of Levoxyl and now I actually feel more tired??? I

actually started

having fantasies about chocolate injections... LOL... you know it's bad when you

don't even

care if you TASTE the chocolate!!!!

Then I wake up this morning early, take my pill and immediately feel kinda

jittery.. was

that way all day with no caffeine, including in my dance class which didn't help

at all... and

I thought, NOW what -- hyperthyroid in a day??

Around 3 pm, the cramps start... then my flow... right on time. Mystery solved.

This isn't

the first time this kind of thing has happened although I paid closer attention

this time

because of my concurrent Levoxyl increase. Supposedly my female hormones are a

little

out of whack and I have this family history of early menopause, but my period

almost

always comes right on time, give or take a few days.

Just wondering if anyone has felt similar... or knows if it's thyroid related..

thanks

(who is indulging in a hot almond milk cocoa!) :-)

Hey those chocolate injections sound wonderful ! LOL

You're starting to sound alot like me my dear! Would highly

recommend reading Suzanne Somers new book called " The Sexy Years. "

She talks alot about all the female hormones, and others like

thyroid and adrenals.

They're finding that women are starting to lose their hormones at a

much earlier age nowadays whereas it used to be in the 40's, it's

now in the mid 30's, and even younger in some instances.

She's given these names to some of the symptoms of menopause, Itchy,

Bitchy, Sweaty, Sleepy, Forgetful, Bloated, and All-Dried-Up. Loved

the book. Was very easy to read and very fast. Took me about two

days to read it.

I've been having major problems with Bitchy living here with me the

last month or so and so decided, after reading the book, to go get

my hormones checked. All I can say is I think it's gonna end up

being like the journey I had finding a doc to Rx Armour.

I was able to kick out Sweaty, Bloated, Itchy, and Forgetful with

the use of Armour and progesterone cream. Sleepy is coming back but

I feel it's due to a need to increase the Armour dosage but All-

Dried-Up....well I still have him around unfortunately. :(

Usually for me though I have a burst of energy just before TOM

arrives but my cramps and flow have gotten worse over the last few

months and I attributed that to probably low estrogen.

Once in awhile I get the jitters/heeby jeebies and thought it was

due to the Armour but I get them if I don't eat too.

If you find out more about those chocolate injections i.e. sugar

free maybe, please let me know! LOL

{{hugs}}

One thing is that when our periods start, I know that we are in estrogen

withdrawal, it's the lowest point of it during the month. I'm just

wondering (just a theory) if some people have a lot harder time right before

the period and right during it because maybe all their lives after menarche,

they may have had VERY high peaks of it all the rest of the month. Then,

when it falls at given times, it falls a long way, so they suffer more than

those who did not have grossly high levels at ANY time of the month. I

would think that that could also apply to progesterone, though it is my

understanding that progesterone has less wild swings, in these cases, at

least for a young menstruating woman. Premenopausal for me started way back

in my late 20s, I'm going to assume, because I do know for a fact that the

oncologist that I was seeing in my early 30s couldn't believe that I had

virtually no progesterone at that age (32). She did say though that I had

an overabundance of estrogen, which I had no inkling of what that would soon

come to mean for my thyroid and my general sense of well-being. I'm 52 now,

but I would like to advise young women (so that they don't have to have this

hindsight, rather foresight) to get saliva tested for both of these critical

hormones, plus the testosterone, while they are still sitting just at the

border of the premenopausal phase, so that they can sort of bolster

themselves for treatment with bioidentical hormones (please not Premarin or

any of the others from the horse pee--they are detrimental to a woman's

health--I was on them for 4 long yrs!), and maybe the premenopause won't be

a total nightmare. My mother did not have these problems, somehow. She

breezed right through it with her uterus intact, but my sister and I were

not that fortunate. Both of us had hysterectomies in our mid and then late

30s because we both fibroid tumors with 20 day long periods and excruciating

pain on our periods during that time period, with no meds even touching the

problem. We both also had endometriosis, but hers was also located around

her intestines, so it was more of a nightmare for her. I'm just telling

this to those who seem to have this huge amt of estrogen in their bodies all

their lives. I think that premenopausal syndrome is much more traumatic for

us, if we don't know exactly how to treat and what to treat with,

especially. Estrogen and thyroid hormone do compete for binding sites.
