Guest guest
" This is one of the things that really confuses me about all the new info I'm reading. Looking at the history of all homo sapiens, *both* grains and dairy-for-adults are relatively new, right? What I understood from the Weston Price stuff I've read is that grains are ok if we soak them, and dairy is ok if its raw (and I'm lucky enough to come from areas where people have drank it, thus I can digest it). " This all really confuses me too, and what I am going with today might not be what I will go with tomorrow! :-) Dr. Mercola argues that grain consumption, especially in high amounts, takes away from more healthy foods we could be eating. For example, if you eliminate grains, you are forced to replace it with something, and he recommends choosing vegetables. He says that vegetables are high in nutrients and grains are mostly lacking in nutrients. He says they can lead to biotin deficiency, but I don't remember the science behind it. He also says that there are things in grains, I believe the phytic acids, that inhibit absorption of many minerals, like calcium, by binding to them. Some people also blame grain consumption on many of the " diseases of civilization " we see today. I find that books on paleo diets do a great job of illustrating our health before grain consumption and after. I just can't find any good reasons to eat grains. They shouldn't just be okay to eat IMO but actually good for us. He says that sprouted grains (is this what you mean by soaked, I think we should soak beans and sprout grains) are mostly bad if you have high insulin levels, are diabetic, overweight, or have high blood pressure. Even sprouted grains convert to sugar quickly in your body. If you don't suffer from any of these, I guess that they are okay in moderation. He seems concerned that people are eating things like cereal and bread when they could be eating vegetables, fruit, and meat. I highly recommend a book on metabolic typing too because some people do better with more carbs and some don't. I eliminated grains from my diet, with the exception of the occasional pizza here and there, and I have lost 10 pounds. I am not extremely overweight, either. I am 5' 5 " . I was 135 and now I am 125. I wasn't even trying to lose weight but just trying to eat better! I am still not 100% sure about raw milk consumption to be honest. I think more research needs to be done in this area. I am certain that pasteurized and especially homogenized milk is awful. Also, when you look at the history in the US of disease, you can correlate it to milk pasteurization/homogenization and refined grains/sugar. Milk fat is supposed to be anticarcinogenic, of course you have to make sure it is from a good source not overloaded with carcinogens itself! If milk is what gives babies everything they need, I just can't see it being awful for us even if we are adults and it is from another species. I do wonder what research has been done regarding raw milk and osteoporosis. Milk consumption has been linked to osteoporosis, but what about raw milk? Also, when did osteoporosis become a problem in this country- does it correlate to pasteurization? I think this is a very important question. Does anyone know the answer? " What is the " cutoff " point >for harming the milk " I have been wondering this too. With yogurt are we replacing some of the good stuff/enzymes because we are culturing it? I really don't know, and yogurt is my favorite way of eating dairy! -Olif _________________________________________________________________ Getting married? Guest guest
Hi Olif! Welcome, friend. We here at Raw Dairy are mostly totally sold on raw milk. Perhaps as you stay here you can learn more and understand more from us. Could you do something for me? You will learn all you need to know and get some answers to questions like these about osteoporosis in the Supplemental Report in Favor of Raw Milk that was used to persuade the LA County Board of Supervisors to allow raw milk sales in the LA county area. It is an amazing document. Read it in it's entirety and get back to me with what you think about it, ok? Thanks, Dady http://www.karlloren.com/aajonus/p15.htm Olif VanPelt wrote: I am still not 100% sure about raw milk consumption to be honest. I think more research needs to be done in this area. Guest guest
Thanks ! There is a ton of info here. It is going to take me a while to read through it all, and my mom is visiting right now from out of state. I will get to it in the next couple of weeks though. This looks like the info I have been searching for! I search the best I can on the internet, but sometimes it is difficult to find this much detail. Thanks, Olif _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
