Hi :

We try to update as many patients as possible, however that can be

impossible! What I like to do is review the patients who are on top of

the tray list every couple of months..I usually do the first 10-15

patients of each ABO, sensitized and unsensitized...This way I know who

theoretically should be next on the list to be called in for a cad...

This has been really helpful, and it makes me extra aware of the top of

the list patients. Of course, the 0 mismatches will still happen..but

the surgeons will page me first before accepting.

Thanks,

Rose-Ann

Reverification of insurance coverage

Hello to all,

We recently had a patient who was not able to receive a kidney

transplant because his insurance terminated 5 months prior and he

failed to notify our Center of this. We reverify insurance eligibility

but not every month.....Question is: how do other Centers handle

reverification of insurance coverage for your listed patients? Thanks

for your input!!

We schedule them to come in every 12 months and they see the financial coordinator at that time. In addition, they sign a financial letter that states the estimated amount a transplant costs and immunosuppressive drugs. This letter also states if they change insurance and do not notify us and they are transplanted without proper authorization, they are responsible for the bill. Obviously, people still change insurance and do not let us know. I call and verify insurance when folks are transplanted. Weekend transplants do not get verified until Monday but it is the best we can do in an imperfect system. >>> Regina.Sullivan@... 06/11/04 05:01PM >>>Hello to all,We recently had a patient who was not able to receive a kidney transplantbecause his insurance terminated 5 months prior and he failed to notifyour Center of this.
