Guest guest
Sherry, Can you tell me how the milk was stored? What kind of container is it being kept in? Janet milk taste??? Hello all,I ordered some milk and cream... after about 3 days I noticed a different smell with the milk. (cream still tastes sweet/normal) I thought it tasted a little different mainly due to it being from grass fed cows. (originally i had gotten milk from both grain and grass fed cows) But then in the next two days I noticed a significant difference in the taste. It is now really bitter tasting. It doesn't have the same smell or taste you would get if it was getting that sour taste of turning to buttermilk. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows what I am talking about and what this is from and if it is normal. I drank a little to see how I would feel from it - no problems just a weird aftertaste.Any comments or info appreciated. And, can I still use it for baking or maybe yogurt? Thanks,SherryPLEASE BE KIND AND TRIM YOUR POSTS WHEN REPLYING!Check out these links!Midvalleyvu Farms http://www.midvalleyvu.comThe Weston A. Guest guest
It seems to be related to how hot it got for how long during shipping. I have had some milk last two weeks and other shipments last two days. It makes a big difference if you can get it into a pre-cooled glass container when you receive it. Our farmer cools the milk down, quickly after collection and ships to us packed in ice. That bitter, acidic taste, comes from certain bacteria multiplying. If the milk had been left at room temperature after collection, it would have clabbered. Sounds like yours got "clobbered". Langlois,CFP -- milk taste??? Guest guest
Hi Janet, It is kept in a plastic milk container - the one it was sent to me in and in the fridge. Was shipped in good packaging with ice packs. They are 1 quart and look like little miniature gallon milk jugs that you would get in the regular grocery store. I have two of the little containers and they both smell that way. The cream containers don't have the same smell and are in plastic as well. ??? Thanks, Sherry > Sherry, > Can you tell me how the milk was stored? What kind of container is it being kept in? > Janet
Guest guest
Janet, I think that would be a good idea to transfer no matter what type of plastic it comes in. These containers were new with sealed caps - the tear off kind like the store. Thanks for all your suggestions!! Sherry > I guess my suggestion would be to transfer the milk to a glass container as soon as possible next time. Maybe even suggest to your supplier that the jugs be rinsed well before filling. Guest guest
Is clabbered more like yogurt or buttermilk?
