Guest guest
The BioGraph Infiniti Suite for TLC Assessment and Training (TLC Suite) – Berlin (January-February) Edition is now available. The BioGraph Infiniti Suite for TLC Assessment and Training (TLC Suite) is produced by the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe (www.bfe.org), a non-profit organization which was founded to promote a greater awareness of biofeedback among health professionals and, through training workshops, educate clinicians in the use of biofeedback techniques and technology. The BFE supports the deployment of technology and training to establish teams of clinicians and researchers to collect data in International Research & Education Projects (IREP). One goal for the TLC Suite is to become an accessible instrument for data collection in such international projects. The TLC assessment provides multiple accurate pictures of brain activation patterns that are practically oriented toward telling us what and where to train. What differentiates the TLC is that it is easy to do, with your regular encoder, fast to do, more focused on training than data, and yet it gives the trainers data that is very consistent with what they learn from QEEG's. Also, it includes a training approach designed to broaden the effectiveness of training by using two-channel protocols, to simplify the trainer's technical job by using summed-channel protocols and to minimize negative effects by focusing mainly on inhibit-only protocols. The TLC assessment tool provides 10-18 channels of EEG data in 7 different views (histograms, head-maps, ratio and peak frequency data, variance graphs, etc.), which allow you to compare eyes-closed, eyes-open and challenge task activation patterns across the head. In contains a built-in system for reviewing the data in a structured way focused on identifying highly effective training strategies based on patterns and relationships between sites and frequencies within the client's own brain. These specific relationships (identified and validated by QEEG pattern analysis) stand out in the data and can be compared against the client's training goals. These lead more directly to training approaches. The TLC Subjective Evaluation is a computerized file that allows clients to rate a wide range of subjective issues and then uses these ratings to identify brain structures that appear to be most involved in those problems. It is important to understand that, at this point in time, you need to learn the TLC assessment INTERPRETATION from Van Deusen himself. In the training approach the focus is on a single requirement of training, which affects a fairly broad area of the brain. It is very simple for the client to understand, very easy for the trainer to manage (single threshold) and provides the brain itself with a good deal of flexibility in terms of how it chooses to meet the training challenge. Now, about the BioGraph Infiniti Suite for TLC Assessment and Training. The TLC Suite is a set of easy-to-run scripts and training screens created by Francois Dupont, Ph.D. At the core of the Suite are the scripts (a feature unique to the Infiniti) which can be used with 2, 4 and 6 EEG electrodes (with physiology measures), and allow you to accurately run the three activities needed in the TLC assessment: eyes closed, eyes open and a different task associated with the electrode placements. After each activity you see the statistics for that activity and you have the option to repeat it if something went wrong (like too many artefacts), allowing you to record the data over again for that specific activity. When you are ready to proceed with an activity, all you have to do is press a key to continue. A status bar at the bottom of the screen lets you know what is happening during the script. On-screen instructions guide you through the assessment and help you find electrode placement and instruct your client. Special screens are created to use with the automatic and manual artefact rejection functions. The TLC Suite is built to allow the transfer of data recorded with the Script to the TLC spreadsheet; which offers now different ways of organizing and presenting data from up to 18 sites at once. That being said, the TLC Suite is a standalone assessment in the sense that you get many statistics, including % power and many ratios, which you can use the way you want. For example, you may decide to compare ratios like theta²/beta² to data at Cz. You may decide to use it to create Trend reports between sessions from within Infiniti. The BioGraph Infiniti Suite for TLC Assessment and Training has been since the beginning, and still is, a work in progress. In the current version, released in the first quarter of 2007, the assessment can be done with the options described here: http://www.bfe.org/store/TLCASSESS.pdf The training screens available in the TLC Suite are the ones specific to Van Deusen's approach, plus some extras, like the complex ratios. The TLC Suite is not meant to cover all potential training options that are, or will be, part of BioGraph Infiniti. The TLC Suite DOES NOT INCLUDE the following screens, which will be coming from Thought Technology in the next update of BioGraph Infiniti – verify regularly on their web site: alpha amplitude range training, alpha theta, coherence range training, phase training, Z-scores training. People who already bought the TLC Suite will receive a CD with installation programs at no expense. Please contact the place where you bought it. People buying the TLC Suite for the first time for this release will pay $150. It will be $300 when the final official release is completed. There are also 2 online training courses (6 hours each) at $150 each (or $300 for the Suite + one course). Check the dates, at http://www.bfe.org/join.html. Francois Dupont, Ph.D., C.Psych.
