Guest guest
Hi all, I'm in Australia and recently found out I had Hep C. I'm guessing I've had the virus for about 15 years. I've been told that no one will treat it until I develop complications. Is this wrong. Can I still get some treatment? It sounds really horrible from what I've been reading, and I'm not sure what the chances are of eradicating the virus. Does anyone know? Guest guest
I hope it wasn't a doctor that told you no one will treat it until you develop complications. Any doctor that does not offer treatment when the virus is present is not reputable. However, that may not mean he or she would recommend treatment. Once you have had a positive virus count you should have a liver biopsy. A liver biopsy will tell how active the virus is and how much damage it has done. If there is little inflammation and little damage it may be worth your while to forego treatment for the time being until better treatments come along. The current standard of care is pretty grueling and it's successful only 50% to 60% of the time. Doug > Hi all, > > I'm in Australia and recently found out I had Hep C. Guest guest
Dear Jellyfish, I have to agree with Doug, any Doctor that tells you that he will not treat until there is complications, can not possibly know what he is talking about. All the studies and findings now are saying that the sooner you find out the better and the more aggressive they want to treat it. As the longer the virus is in the system the more it replicates itself. And we all know how fast this virus replicates. I have only had the virus for less than 3 years and am in very good shape as far as my liver and numbers -- However my Doctors (from the Mayo Clinic, one of the best in the US) wanted treat it quickly and aggressively , and it has worked so far, I have been clear of the virus since my 11th shot. Yes I still have to finish the 48 weeks of treatment, but it sure is nice to know that it is working... You need to find you a better Doc and make sure he is a GI or Hepatoligist . Good luck to you and know that i will be praying for you Dear... May GOD continue to bless us all... Marie -- RE: it's me Marie Hi all, I'm in Australia and recently found out I had Hep C.
