Guest guest Posted January 26, 2004 Report Share Posted January 26, 2004 Hi everyone, I don't think I introduced myself before although I joined awhile ago. I'm Lynn Razaitis in Atlanta. I'm part of a diary co-op (my house is one of the main drop-off points on the east side of the big A) that has been going for over a year. In fact I see quite a few of our members posting away here! We buy from 3 producers in south Ga everything from milk to chickens. Lucky us! The co-op is fairly stable with a slowly growing number of customers. I think we are at about 20 right now. We are not legal:( I've looked at the cow share contracts as a possiblity but they seem fairly full of legaleese and complicated. These are tiny family farms we buy from (one our producers also posts here). A new idea emerged last week of following the law in labeling our dairy " not for human consumption " then selling it for rabbit or other small animal consumption. The law in Ga states that raw is legal for pets if it comes from a certified dairy. It seems as though small animals aren't considered pets? Any thoughts on this one?? I guess it elminates the liabilty issue for the farmer which is part of our goal. Since we're drinking milk that's " not for human consumption " I would think we're still illegal. That is if it's illegal to do something with milk that you're not supposed to do that with it ...in the privacy of your own home????? This is all new territory to us!
