Buxus Chinensis or Simmondsia Chinensis?

botanically it is now called Simmondsia Chinensis, but it was first

classified as Buxus Chinensis and then Simmondsia Californica. The

Simmondsia Chinensis name was first used in the early 1900s, around

1915, I think.

This is really common in botanical circles - heated debate over the

taxonomic classification of plants can last for decades. On some of

my garden websites it lists Buxus Chinensis as a synonym for

Simmondsia Chinensis.

I wouldn't be surprised if either was acceptable by the CFTA, since

botanists themselves can't always decide...*grin*
