Guest guest
, Sheila, et al., I'm pretty sure I agree with everything you're saying - about the nature of NFP and the importance of mutual support (and shunning "flames"). I very much agree that no one here seems to idolize "science." I think that it might sometimes be beneficial to remind ourselves not to make the opposite mistake either. I think that we all recognize that NFP is a positive philosophy of care that one ought to embrace. I hope we can all agree also that - as says - it has an intellectual component - among other components - and that its goodness is dependent on - again, among other things - its being intellectually - i.e., scientifically - responsible. And I hope that - without getting into "flame wars" or "bashing" - and precisely as part of our effort to support one another - we can have fruitful discussions of what the best NFP science is. I hope that we can refrain from suggesting that method X is evil. I hope however that we can also refrain from seeming to suggest that just because practitioners of method X share in general in the NFP philosophy of care - therefore method X's claim to be the best science is therefore beyond constructive scrutiny. Finally, it's certainly true that, in our culture, ideology can masquerade as science, and good science can be downplayed/ignored in favor of ideology - and that this is one of the things we're up against in promoting NFP. My point would be that we need to avoid making our own version of that very mistake - of assuming that that which is a well-intentioned effort at NFP is ipso facto the best science. --------- RE: Lupron for treatment of endometrosis? , I appreciate the clarification. But I’d like to push this just a bit. What are the criteria for “science” and “excellent care”? Is it possible that good and reasonable physicians and other health-care professionals could disagree regarding what training and methodologies are best grounded in science and best enable them to provide excellent care? ahuntley@... http://fructusventris.stblogs.org
