A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM LOUISE HAY What We Give Out, We Get Back MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Let's Wake Up The World Awaken the Powers Withinby Dr. ph Do you think that it was God’s plan for us to be healthy, prosperous, and happy? Modern-day mystic and philosopher Dr. ph (1898-1981) believed this with all his heart and he spent a lifetime bringing this message to the world. “I want to reach the majority, the man on the street, the woman overburdened with duty and suppression of her talents and abilities. I want to help others at every stage or level of consciousness to learn of the wonders within” In this moving fable from Maximize Your Potential Through the Power of Your Subconscious Mind to Develop An Enriched Life—The sixth in a series of books on Dr. ’s famous lectures and philosophy—you’ll rediscover the priceless treasure of self-esteem. One day a lion cub was playing alone in the wilderness while his mother slept. The baby lion decided that he’d explore a bit and see what the great world beyond his home was like. Before he realized it, he’d wandered so far that he couldn’t find his way back. He was lost. Very frightened, the cub ran frantically in every direction calling piteously for his mom, but she didn’t hear him. Weary from searching, he didn’t know what else to do. Then a sheep, whose offspring had been taken from her, heard his cries and adopted him. The sheep became very fond of her foundling, who in a short while grew so large that at times she was almost afraid of him. Often she’d detect a strange, far-off look in his eyes that she couldn’t understand. Nonetheless, the foster mother and her adopted cub lived very happily together until one day when a magnificent lion appeared, sharply outlined against the sky on the top of a nearby hill. He shook his tawny mane and uttered a terrific roar, which echoed through the countryside. The mother sheep stood paralyzed with fear, but the cub listened as though spellbound. The lion’s roar had touched a chord in his nature that he’d never felt before. New desires and a consciousness of his power possessed him. Instinctively he answered the lion’s call with a corresponding roar. Trembling with mingled fear, surprise, and bewilderment at the feelings aroused within him, the awakened animal gave his foster mother a last look and then, with a tremendous leap, started toward the lion on the hill. The lost cub had found himself. Until then he’d gamboled around his sheep mother just as though he were a lamb, never dreaming that he could do anything different from the ordinary sheep around him. He hadn’t imagined that he had within him a power that could strike terror in the other beasts of the jungle. Whereas he used to tremble at the mere howl of a wolf, he was now amazed to find that the animals that had terrified him before now fled from him. As long as the baby lion thought he was a sheep, he was as timid and retiring as one. He had only a sheep’s strength and courage and could never have exerted the command of a lion. If someone had suggested that he could, he would have asked, “How could I be so powerful? I’m only a sheep.” But when the lion was awakened in him, he instantly became a new creature, the king of beasts. The roar he heard hadn’t given him any new abilities; it had merely brought forth what was already within him, revealing what he’d always possessed. Never again could this young animal be satisfied to act like a sheep. From then on he’d live as a lion. There is in every human being a sleeping lion. It’s just a question of rousing it . . . of finding something that will stir the depths of our being and awaken the powers within. Just like the cub, when we at last discover that we’re more than mere clay and have the Divine Spirit within us, we shall never again be satisfied to live like a common clod of earth. We’ll feel a new sense of strength welling up that we didn’t know we possessed, and we’ll no longer be content with low-flying ideals and cheap success. Instead, we’ll seek higher and higher planes. In a NutshellLet go of everything else if you must but never lose your own esteem. This is a priceless pearl and is dearer to you than your breath. Protect it with all your might. Perhaps the past has been a bitter disappointment for you. In reviewing it, you may feel that you’ve been a failure or at best have been plodding along in mediocrity. Yet in spite of any setbacks, if you refuse to be conquered, victory is awaiting you farther down the road. Try to bring forth your enormous potential. You know that it’s there and can instinctively feel it. Your intuition and ambition tell you that there’s much more in you than you’ve ever discovered or used. Why don’t you stir it up and call it out? Wake up and live! God created all humans in His image and has given us the power to overcome adversity and attain happiness, harmony, health, and prosperity. This is the basis of the philosophy of Dr. ph , one of the great inspirational writers and lecturers of the 20th century. He wrote more than 30 books, and his most well-known one, The Power of the Unconscious Mind, was first published in 1963 and became an immediate bestseller. It was acclaimed as one of the greatest self-help guides ever written. Dr. died in December 1981, but his powerful and inspiring wisdom lives on in this series of books—Maximize Your Potential through the Power of Your Subconscious Mind—edited by Arthur R. Pell, Ph.D. Click here for details Back to Top Ä Doing The Work with Byron “Byron ’s bright blue eyes sparkle with wisdom and fun,” writes a student from a recent workshop with the world-renowned teacher of “The Work.” “Powerful, empathetic, witty, gracious, matter-of-fact, brilliantly charming”—Byron is all of these things and more. People call her “,” and she describes herself as having just one job—to teach people how to end their own suffering. As she guides students through the powerful process called The Work, they find that their stressful beliefs—about life, other people, or themselves—radically shift and their lives are changed forever Byron created the process of self-inquiry she calls The Work after her own life hit impossible depths. In 1986 after nearly a decade of struggling with depression, alcoholism, suicidal thoughts, and eating disorders, checked herself into a halfway house and rehab center for women. There, at age 43, she had an awakening that changed her life. Feelings of joy and well-being replaced her despair when she realized that the cause of her suffering was not the world but her beliefs about the world. I discovered that when I believed my thoughts, I suffered, but that when I didn’t believe them, I didn’t suffer, and that this is true for every human being. Freedom is as simple as that. I found that suffering is optional. I found a joy within me that has never disappeared, not for a single moment. That joy is in everyone, always. As she began to share her awakening with others, the question and answer process of The Work became her calling and her gift to the world. Since 1986, has introduced The Work directly to millions of people throughout the world at free public events; in prisons, hospitals, churches, corporations, universities, and schools; at weekend intensives; and at her nine-day School for The Work. She has written the best-selling books Loving What Is; I Need Your Love—Is That True?; A Thousand Names for Joy; and, with Hay House, Question Your Thinking, Change the World and her latest Who Would You Be Without Your Story? Dialogues with Byron . What happens at a Byron workshop? People attend seeking help for everything from painful illnesses to messy divorces to worries about money. According to The Times of London, “Byron ’s workshops are riveting to watch, and not just because people are baring their souls. ’s laser-like tough love burns away all illusions.” Using a Worksheet containing four questions, those seeking help from begin the process of examining their painful thoughts: Is it true? Can you absolutely know that it’s true? How do you react when you believe that thought? Who would you be without the thought? What all workshop attendees have in common is a willingness to question, with ’s help, the painful thoughts that are the true cause of all suffering. ’s acute mind and fierce kindness help each person dismantle for him- or herself what they once felt to be unshakable reality. The basis of The Work is the concept that all the problems in the world originate in our thinking, Byron gives us a tool to open our minds and set ourselves free. Byron ’s new book Who Would You Be Without Your Story?: Dialogues with Byron is available now. For details, click here. Back to Top Ä Get the Red Carpet Ready:It’s Wayne Dyer’s Movie Premiere! Cohen, Ph.D. Do you find that certain scenarios and patterns keep coming up in your life? Maybe you continue to attract the same type of spouse or you often find yourself buried in financial turmoil? Noted psychologist and intuitive Dr. Doris E. Cohen says that in order to heal from our traumas, we unknowingly repeat and relive the stories again and again in this life as well as in other lifetimes. In her new book, Repetition, Doris offers you the following quiz so you can determine which common themes and patterns are repeating themselves in your life: We typically have at least three themes that become core issues in our lives, repeating themselves in our relationships with others at home, at work, at school, and in myriad situations. Take a look at this list of common themes and patterns of repetition: Feeling inadequate or “not good enough” Choosing what seems to be the wrong romantic partner Being abused emotionally, physically, and/or sexually Feeling victimized Feeling helpless and powerless Fear of loss, commitment, intimacy, or being alone Feeling abandoned Lacking money, health, love, or friendship Being unacknowledged for one’s gifts or contributions Feeling misunderstood by everyone Feeling unworthy; experiencing low self-esteem Being overlooked for advancement Being unheard and ignored Having personal boundaries violated and disrespected Not fitting in Being angry; having difficulty managing anger Can you relate to any of them? Please refer to this list when answering the questions below: Keeping in mind that your feelings may not be rational but always make sense, in what situations do you experience each of the preceding common themes of repetition? Which themes seem to appear in your life frequently? In what situations have you felt, This seems familiar to me? Which of the common themes of repetition were at play in those circumstances? In what situations do you feel victimized and powerless? How do you respond to situations in which you feel victimized and powerless—do you do so quickly and automatically? Do you overreact? Do you manifest physical symptoms of stress, such as a headache, racing pulse, or stomachache? Do you feel anxious and angry? Do you find yourself obsessing and having trouble moving beyond certain types of distressing situations? What themes are at play in these situations? Are you unable to distance yourself from particular events and gain perspective on them? What themes are at play in these situations? The goal is to shift our consciousness: to move away from the mentality of the perpetrator and the victim, the accuser and the accused, the judge and the one who is being judged. The Divine doesn’t judge us, and we shouldn’t judge ourselves or each other. We must simply open our hearts, see with clarity, and accept that it’s up to us to tell our life stories in ways that promote our healing and growth. Only then can we begin the process of making lasting changes in our lives. Noted psychologist, lecturer, and past-life psychic Dr. Doris E. Cohen can show you how to rewrite some of these painful scripts and help you move on to a fulfilling new chapter. For more than 30 years, she has treated thousands of clients. Her approach uses hypnotherapy, past-life regressions, and dream analysis. For more details about her amazing new book, Repetition, click here. This message has been around for a long time. Remember the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This rule was never created to produce guilt. It’s a law of nature that says that how we treat others is exactly how we’ll be treated. This also applies to our thoughts. If we judge and criticize—even in thought—then we will be judged and criticized. If we love and accept ourselves and others unconditionally, then we’ll attract people into our lives who will give us the same unconditional love and acceptance. Thoughts of hate attract thoughts and actions of hate. Thoughts of jealousy attract lack and loss in our lives. On the other hand, thoughts of forgiveness attract healing and prosperity. Thoughts of love bring not only love in our lives, but more goodness than we can imagine. Affirm: I choose thoughts that make me feel happy and loved. This enriches everything I do today. We just finished singing “Happy Birthday” to Louise during her 82nd birthday celebration on the first-ever Official “Louise Hay Day” as proclaimed by our San Diego mayor. Then, we received the grand news that Louise was named one of the recipients of the prestigious Minerva Awards! So off went Louise to the Women’s Conference in Long Beach, a world-renowned event hosted by California’s First Lady Shriver, which draws thousands of women each year. (For those of you who don’t know, the Minerva Award recognizes women who have stepped forward in the spirit of the Roman Goddess Minerva and changed our world with their courage, strength, and wisdom.) To my delight, an extra ticket came my way and I joined a handful of our own empowering women from Hay House’s publicity and marketing departments to attend this remarkable event. (Yes, my heart is still beating from the excitement!) Our combined power of positive thinking even landed us in front row seats at the awards ceremony. Bursting with pride, we sat and watched as told the audience how much Louise’s work has changed her life. We were also inches away from fellow award winners and speakers such as Gloria Steinem, Billie King, and U2’s Bono. And when we heard each of them sharing their thoughts about our inspiring Louise, we were passing tissues to each other and dabbing our tears of joy. When Louise came back into the office, I was anxious to ask her about the conversations she had in the company of these other celebrated women and icons who had such an impact on the world. Do you want to know what the highlight of the event was for Louise? She smiled and her face lit up as she said, “I was so happy to look out and see all of YOU in the front row sharing this experience with me.” Here’s to Louise, , Gloria, Billie our friends, loved ones, coworkers, and all the people who share their stories and encourage us to write our own with love and hope and encouragement. On behalf of all of us here at Hay House, I’d like to wish you a joy-filled Thanksgiving and Holiday Season. Thank you for making our souls blossom with your love and support.
