Dear Whitman,

Here, for me, is a clue. Hopefully, you will find something helpful

in this.

Often, when The Work appears to not work, it is because I have

skipped an entire generation of story.

I have experienced an uncomfortable feeling and then mind builds a

story that that feeling was " depression or fear or anger or etc. " and

another story that I should not be experiencing that feeling. So I

do the Work on " I should not be depressed or afraid or angry, etc. "

and I get nowhere because I am still stuck in the illusion.

Once I have the story that I know that the feeling I am experiencing

is " depression or fear or anger or etc. " , I am stuck. I have

believed " my thinking " is true and from that point on, it does not

matter what I do, because I am stuck " out there " in a story.

Here are some suggestions for doing The Work.

Ask yourself, " Do I really want to know The Truth? "

Could it be that I am preferring to " Do battle with a windmill that I

have labeled " depression or fear or anger or etc. " ?

Some questions might be:

" I am depressed, is that true? " " Can I really know that that is

true? " .

The feeling that you have labeled as depression, do you have it all

the time? Do you have it when you are asleep?

Do the Work to find the Truth around this feeling that you have

labeled as " depression " . And " What do I get when I believe this

story? "

Just some thoughts, Cheers, Steve D.

Hi Whitman!

I have found that " The Work " is a good tool if you want to reframe a

negative situation, learn more about your projections or just look at a

situation from another perspective.

But there's another element to holistic care and that's listening to the

messages our emotions are trying to tell us. I once had a client who was so

depressed and suicidal, his wife was ready to have him hospitalized. Upon

investigation, it turned out he was a 3rd generation farmer who had just

inherited the family farm and hated farming.

His emotions were screaming at him, " Get out of the farming business! " When

I explained this to him, his depression dissipated immediately and he no

longer wanted to end his life. He and his wife realized he had to make

life-saving change. He actually became grateful for the depressive message

he was finally able to hear.

An excellent series of tapes called Energetic Boundaries by Karla Mclaren

offers a more detailed explanation of how emotions tell us when we or

someone else are doing something that is harming our souls. It also teaches

how to detect when a situation is an unhealthy one.

The hardest part of investigating our emotions is finding the courage to

make the needed changes to bring us back to health.

Good Luck,

Eddie
